Application and characteristics of the press-fit coupling

This connecting element is designed for the permanent joining of steel pipes in installations where a non-welded assembly method is required. It is a press-fit coupling intended for pipes with an outer diameter of 54 mm. Thanks to the use of pressing technology, the joint is made quickly and repeatably, which is crucial during installation works in hard-to-reach areas or where welding is prohibited or unsafe. The construction is based on carbon (alloy) steel, which provides adequate mechanical strength for loads typical of water and heating installations.

The surface of the element has been subjected to galvanic (electrolytic) zinc plating, protecting it against corrosion in natural environments. It is worth noting that the product does not carry UL, FM, or LPCB certifications, meaning its application is limited to installations where these specific standards are not a legal or technical requirement. The maximum working pressure is 16 bar at 20°C, covering the needs of most standard water supply and central heating installations in residential and public buildings.

Construction and assembly method

The element has a simple shape (straight coupling) and is manufactured as a one-piece construction. This means it does not consist of multiple moving parts, which increases its reliability and reduces the risk of assembly errors. The total length is 135 mm, allowing for proper insertion of the pipes into the fitting before permanent joining. The outer diameter of the pipes on both sides is 54 mm, ensuring compatibility with the appropriate piping system.

The assembly process requires the use of a dedicated pressing head suitable for a 54 mm diameter. After placing the coupling over the pipe ends and pressing (crimping) it, a tight and mechanically strong joint is formed. Unlike some other solutions:

  • The coupling does not have a stop collar – the pipe must be inserted to the correct depth according to the pressing head manufacturer's instructions.
  • There are no EPDM rubber gaskets or other rubber components – tightness is achieved through metal deformation (cold forming).
  • There is no drain valve or air vent – this is a purely mechanical linear connector.

The material is alloy steel with a protective coating applied via galvanic or electrolytic zinc plating. This construction eliminates the need for additional rubber gaskets, which could degrade at higher temperatures, while maintaining pressure resistance up to 16 bar at standard ambient temperature.

Benefits for installations and durability

Choosing this coupling brings specific benefits both during assembly works and throughout the system's operation. The absence of fire eliminates the risk of fire during renovation or modernization works in existing buildings. The one-piece construction made of galvanized steel guarantees a long service life of the joint without the need for additional maintenance or lubrication.

For the installer, this primarily means time savings – the pressing process is significantly faster than traditional threaded joining or welding. For the end user, reliability is key: the metal-to-metal joint formed after pressing creates a tight barrier resistant to pressure fluctuations in the network up to 16 bar. However, it should be remembered that this product does not have rubber gaskets, making it an ideal choice where the medium temperature may exceed the limits of standard elastic materials, provided that pressure parameters are maintained within permissible limits.
