How to improve your work with a concrete nailer?

Added: Thursday, 9/7/2023

Assembly works involve the performance of a number of works aimed at mechanical intervention in the working surface. Of course, this necessitates the use of a number of tools, the replacement of which results in a loss of valuable time and, consequently, an increase in costs expressed in man-hours. The use of a concrete and steel nailer significantly shortens the task completion time, increasing efficiency and the level of competitiveness. What is a concrete nailer? How much does a concrete nailer speed up the work?

Due to the lack of the need to use other tools and limiting the necessary activities to a minimum (e.g. eliminating drilling in the working surface), the concrete setting tool speeds up the work up to ten times! The concrete nailer is used in direct assembly works, which involve fastening structural elements using steel connectors (nails, threaded pins) applied directly to the interior of the concrete or even steel material.

Due to the ease of use, versatility, affordable price and availability, the most popular tools used in assembly works are gas nailers. The concrete jig enables quick installation of partition walls and suspended ceilings on concrete, and significantly facilitates the installation of heating or electrical installations. The advantage of this type of setting tools is the ability to carry out work in series. The concrete connector is inserted without the need to change tools, even when using steel washers, necessary during the installation of e.g. membrane meshes.

Gas nailers force nails with a length of up to 40 mm into surfaces made of concrete, solid ceramic and silicate bricks and steel. What makes gas nailers practical is the automation of the process of taking gas from the container and the similar application of nails from the magazine. The average efficiency from one gas tank is 600 shots, which should allow for contouring in a facility with an area of 150 m². Gas nailers have a low noise emission level and do not generate dust, which makes them suitable for use during maintenance work in buildings that are in active operation.

What should you consider when choosing concrete drivers?

The selection of an appropriate setting tool should take into account the parameters useful in the operation of the device. Their optimal selection will allow for versatile use of the setting tool, regardless of the working surface and the scope of work performed. If components set in concrete will be exposed to frequent vibrations or shocks, it may be necessary to use higher-strength drivers to maintain their stability.

Material of concrete fasteners may affect their strength and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel is stronger than carbon steel, and galvanized steel has good corrosion resistance. For impact drivers, the load capacity is usually between 50 kg and 500 kg, but can be much higher for professional applications. Chemical nailers are available in various strength classes that can be adapted to the specific task.

How to choose the right length of nails for a concrete nailer?

As the nail passes through the concrete, it must make a hole for the pin, while crushing and compacting the concrete. At the same time, the concrete connector should be resistant to the impact force of hard aggregate.

The minimum length of the nail should be greater than the thickness of the material that is attached to the concrete. For example, if you are fastening a wooden beam 5 cm thick, the minimum nail length should be at least 7-8 cm. If there is an additional insulating layer on top of the material being attached to the concrete, such as wood or plastic, add its thickness to the minimum nail length.

If the element is loaded, the nail length should be increased to ensure adequate load-bearing capacity and stability. For example, when attaching a heavy shelf, it is worth choosing longer nails. The ability of the connector to penetrate and compact the concrete guarantees optimal rates of correct fastening as well as high values of holding forces.

RAWLPLUG concrete nailer in the Onninen wholesaler

An excellent example of equipment that meets the highest technical requirements is the Rawlplug R-RAWL-SC40II-SET1 concrete and steel nailer from the internationally recognized RAWLPLUG brand. A wide range of nails from 15 to 38 mm ensures versatility, while the precision of installation is ensured by keyless adjustment of the setting depth.

30-nail magazine reduces downtime. Additionally, work is made easier by loading the magazine from the rear and an easy disassembly mechanism. This allows the operator to quickly unblock or clean the nailer barrel. Optimization of working time is facilitated by the charge indicator and the low weight of the device, allowing for longer working cycles.
