An air purifier is a simple and proven method of combating smog and microorganisms in home interiors. A high-quality, properly selected device will neutralize smog and unpleasant odors and eliminate health-threatening bacteria and viruses from the air. There are many models to choose from, differing in efficiency, type of filters used, and functionality. Are you wondering which air purifier to choose for your home? We suggest what aspects to pay attention to when buying a device.

Efficiency
The efficiency given by manufacturers in m3/h is one of the most important parameters of each air purifier. It must be adapted to the size of the room in which the device will operate. It should be several times larger than the square footage of the room. For example, the popular ROTENSO Cleo C15W air purifier has an efficiency of 218 m3/h and is dedicated to rooms with a maximum area of 40 m2. It is a very common choice for living rooms, bedrooms and children's rooms.
Filter type
Industry guidelines and scientific studies indicate that home ventilation should be supplemented with additional devices that provide air filtration. Portable air purifiers can successfully fulfill this role. Modern purifiers have a multi-stage air purification process. They are equipped with
filter system: antibacterial, electrostatic, carbon, cold catalytic, etc. Many modern models of air purifiers use:
- a pre-filter that cleans the air from larger impurities and increases the life of the remaining layers
- HEPA filter, which is able to capture even the smallest impurities and microorganisms, such as dust, PM2.5 and PM10 (smog), mold spores and live viruses, thus effectively reducing the risk of spreading droplet diseases
- a carbon filter (with activated carbon) that removes numerous harmful substances from the air, including those causing unpleasant odours
- anti-odor filters that effectively neutralize unpleasant odors
It is worth knowing that according to the PN-EN ISO 16890-1 standard, an effective anti-smog filter stops at least 50% of a given dust suspended in the air. It is important to pay attention to the filter class, because it determines the efficiency of air purification.
Working volume
If you plan to place an air purifier in your bedroom or living room, pay attention to the noise level of the device. Modern air purifiers operate relatively quietly, generating noise at a level below 40 dB, often around 30-35 dB. The clearly audible operation, which can cause discomfort, lasts only a few minutes after starting, when the device intensively purifies the air. At night, it is worth setting the silent mode so as not to disturb your sleep. The noise level of the purifier in night mode is usually as loud as a whisper, i.e. about 17 dB. To improve the comfort of sleep, the device should be located at a distance of no less than 2 m from the bed. As a rule, the more efficient the air purifier you choose, the louder it will be.
Additional features
Air purifiers are often equipped with various practical functions, such as:
- programmable modes,
- remote control from a mobile application,
- automatic start-up when the built-in sensor detects that the standards have been exceeded,
- air humidification (if you prefer independent devices, we recommend the VOLT air humidifier ).
Mobility
Not everyone plans to have an air purifier in all their rooms. Many people decide to buy one device and move it between rooms depending on their current needs, e.g. from the bedroom to the living room and back. In such a case, it is worth choosing a compact and fairly lightweight portable model. Of course, you should check the efficiency of the device so that it works well in all the rooms in which it is to be used.
Warranty and parts availability
Reliability is a feature that you should pay special attention to when buying an air purifier. The manufacturer's warranty period says a lot about the reliability of the device. It is also worth verifying the brand's reputation and avoiding products of uncertain origin. Easy access to spare parts and service is also important.
Summary
Choosing the right air purifier can be a challenge. We hope that our tips will help you make the right decision. The key factors are: matching the device's performance to the size of the room, choosing the right type
filters and paying attention to noise level, optional features, mobility, warranty period and availability of spare parts.
