StreetBox telecommunications cabinet – resistant to weather conditions

Added: Friday, 1/21/2022

Outdoor distribution cabinets should fulfill the standard tasks of control cabinets, such as protecting the devices inside against dust and moisture or interference by third parties. In addition to the typical features, they must be tight and highly resistant to weather conditions.

Aluminum control cabinet resistant to external conditions

The aluminum StreetBox control cabinet meets the guidelines of the PN-EN 60529:2003 standard. The degrees of protection provided by enclosures are marked with the IP code, which is an abbreviation of the first letters of the English name of the code, i.e. International Protection. Each marking consists of the letters IP followed by at least 2 numbers, the first of which means protection against dust, and the second against moisture and water. StreetBox aluminum housings have an IP65 protection level, where the number 6 means maximum protection against dust ingress, and 5 - protection against a strong stream of water poured onto the housing from any side.

StreetBox telecommunications cabinet casing - impact protection

The IK parameter determines impact resistance, which is one of the values specified in the PN-EN 62262: 2003 standard Degrees of protection against external mechanical impacts provided by electrical equipment casings. StreetBox housings have the highest protection class IK 10. This means resistance to impact energy of up to 20 J - this is the equivalent of an object weighing 5 kg falling from a height of 40 cm. In laboratory conditions, such measurement can be performed using Rockwell, Brinell and Vickers hardness testing methods. The high mechanical resistance of StreetBoxes makes them perfect for, among others: in road and railway infrastructure systems.

The most important features of the StreetBox control cabinet

19" telecommunications rack cabinets from the StreetBox series are characterized by high load-bearing capacity of up to 800 kg. They are available in one- or two-door versions. A welded frame made of aluminum profiles with a 3 mm wall ensures the stability of the structure. A four-point latch lock guarantees tight closure and protection against access to devices installed inside the cabinet. The maximum usable height of the cabinet is 2x42U. As standard, it is powder coated in gray RAL 7035. It is worth knowing that StreetBoxes are entirely designed and manufactured in Poland.

Full range of functionality

Air insulation between the double walls of StreetBox cabinets gives great results
protection against external conditions, however, if it is important from the point of view of use that the indoor installation is not exposed to large temperature changes throughout the year, additional protection can be used. It is possible to insulate the cabinet with an insulating mat. Thanks to its unique design, the cabinet is compatible with additional air conditioning and heating systems provided by the manufacturer. Accessories for control cabinets increase the usability and safety of the housing. Depending on the purpose, the cabinet can be equipped with a mounting plate, 19" or 21" rack beams or shelves with a 19" spacing, used for batteries for emergency lighting.

The use of outdoor industrial cabinets

ICT cabinets designed for outdoor installation are a guarantee of durability and safety for any energy and ICT system. High static load-bearing capacity combined with a concrete foundation or stainless steel plinth ensures reliable installation protection. Investors use this type of housing to protect street lighting control devices on roads and highways, railway signaling devices, telecommunications cables and server rooms on ships. Electrostatic powder coating, combined with a complex alkaline degreasing technique and detail passivation technology, has a very positive effect on the anti-corrosion resistance of the final product.

The interior of the control cabinet

The control cabinet can be equipped with active devices that generate or modify the signal transmitted over the network and passive components that transmit the signal but do not modify it. Cables are led to the housing from the bottom through a spacer plinth, embedded or permanently buried in the ground. The side walls, doors and roof are made of 2 mm aluminum. The housing can be equipped with an additional air conditioner or heating system to maintain optimal conditions necessary for the proper operation of the devices even in winter.
