The best combi boilers for investment by developers

Added: Friday, 11/25/2022

Condensing boilers are well-known and appreciated devices with an established position in the heating industry. Currently, on the market you can find boilers that meet all the needs of users and are adapted to work in various buildings - single-family houses, apartments and tenement houses, as well as in commercial buildings, production halls, hotels and others. How to choose the right solution for each type of investment? Check!

Not only individual users face difficult choices when building a house or finishing an apartment. When building "for someone", you also need to research the market and select specific models, e.g. of heating devices. However, the richness of the offer makes it easy to fall into "decision paralysis" , so we have prepared a short guide that will help you determine what parameters to pay attention to in order to choose correctly and without spending too much time, and at the same time not overpay. Shall we begin? Well, let's start.

A dual-function stove for an apartment and a single-family house

Heating system with a boiler, installed in the basement of the building The offer for houses and apartments mainly includes boilers with power ranging from 12 to 35 kW. There are different types: single-function boilers , dual-function flow boilers, dual-function boilers with a built-in tank and floor-standing boilers . Specially selected sets with a tank, external temperature probe and controllers create an integrated and complete heating system. An undoubted advantage of such boilers is the possibility of applying for funding for replacing a heat source under the Clean Air program , but unfortunately the construction of a new house, especially by a developer, destroys this option.

Combination boiler for a commercial facility

The offer for facilities includes medium- and high-power boilers from 35 kW to even 900 kW, which can be used in large-scale buildings: halls, warehouses, schools, hotels and hospitals. Of course, we realize that the range given here is huge, but there is a simple way to calculate the power of a heating boiler in terms of the area and cubic capacity of the planned investment . It is assumed that to heat each 10 m 2 of the building surface, 0.6 kW of heat source power is needed, so a 100-meter house needs a small 6 kW furnace, and a warehouse occupying 2,000 m 2 - a device generating 120 kW. The largest boilers, with a capacity of 900 kW, will probably be useful only for heating churches and stadiums.

A wide range of maximum heating parameters to choose from is one thing, but modern condensing boilers in virtually every case are characterized by the ability to modulate the burner power . This feature allows you to adjust the power of the boiler to the current heat demand of the heated rooms, which translates into economical operation of the device without overheating the rooms. This option also means that you can initially choose a boiler with some margin (e.g. for future expansion of the facility), but only use it half-heartedly. In this way, increasing the heated surface/volume does not require replacing the heating device with a more efficient one.

The power modulation option also allows you to flexibly manage the boiler's efficiency depending on the external temperature. At negative temperatures, when the heat demand is high, the boiler is able to provide the appropriate amount of heat thanks to its high maximum power. However, as the external temperature increases, the demand for thermal power necessary to heat the rooms decreases, and in such a situation the boiler reduces the power at which it operates to match the current heat demand, and thus consumes less gas. Figuratively speaking, it resembles the burner of a gas stove, which can be adjusted with a knob, choosing between heating as quickly as possible or keeping it warm over low heat.
