What is the function of the drain valve?

Alcadrain drain valve The flush valve plays an extremely important role. It is worth knowing that this element is responsible for the correct operation of the flush, because without it, flushing the water would not be possible. You should also know that the valve is subject to various factors, including high water pressure, but also the frequency of use, which can cause it to wear out faster. The main role of the valve is to flush the water. This is most often done by pressing the button. The flush valve is also responsible for setting the float to fill the tank. Thanks to it, you can regulate the flush, so the flush valve is an integral part of the entire flushing mechanism. It can operate in two modes, small and large flush. It can also be equipped with a stop function.

Replacing the flush valve in a concealed cistern step by step

Remember that if you press the flush button and nothing happens or the water drains very slowly, the drain valve needs to be replaced. Also check if the float is loose. If not, you will probably need to replace the drain valve. You can replace the concealed valve yourself and, contrary to appearances, it is not that difficult.

Step one: remove the flush button

First, you need to remove the flush button, because only then can you get to the flushing mechanism. So, we detach the flush button. Do it very carefully, so as not to damage this element. Then we put it in a safe place and then we can move on to step two. It is best to remove the flap using a screwdriver. This way, you will speed up the work.

Step two: pull out the flush mechanism

Once the safety flap is removed, the entire flush mechanism will be visible. In concealed toilets, there is not much room to maneuver, so it is best to pull out the entire mechanism. This will make replacing the flush valve easier. The flush mechanism is mounted using locks that you just turn and that's it. Now you can accurately assess the condition of the flush valve and if it is permanently damaged, it is necessary to replace it. Of course, it may also turn out that it is not working properly because it is simply dirty. In this case, you should simply clean it.

Step Three: Replace the Drain Valve

Now all you need to do is remove the old mechanism by unscrewing the plastic nut at the base. The next step is to install a new drain valve. Remember to properly position the moving elements. You also need to place seals at the base. This will provide even better water tightness. After removing the pushers, press the levers located on both sides of the plate covering the inspection hole. Then you can hold down the button that opens the drain valve. Pull the console up and tilt it towards you. This way, you will remove the valve even faster and more reliably. Put a new one in its place and rinse off any accumulated sediment. The drain valve is properly installed when the lock engages.

Step Four: Mount the Console

Most of the work is already behind you. All that remains is to mount the console. Hook the hooks hanging at the back, check if the valve rises and falls. Then insert the cover plate and secure the frame by inserting the pins into the holes.
