How to choose a vent for heating and sanitary installations?

Added: Monday, 8/29/2022

An automatic air vent is an inconspicuous but important element of a heating or sanitary installation. It's easy to say that everyone can see the vent as it is, but has everything really been said on this topic? Since the topic seems trivial, mistakes are often made when choosing air vents, which result in an incorrectly functioning installation. How to prevent them?

Working pressure and breather selection

Let's start by answering a question that comes up very often during technical training for customers: what is the difference between maximum working pressure and maximum relief pressure and why are these two values given? The maximum working pressure is the value at which a given air vent can operate in terms of its strength.

Maximum relief pressure it is the value up to which a given air vent works optimally. These two features are provided not only for Caleffi products, but apply to all air vents offered on the market, and result from the construction of these elements. Why do we provide these two values? Because for us the most important thing is to provide an optimal solution that meets the requirements of a specific situation. As a company, we also value transparency, which is why we want the user of our product to have full knowledge about it.

The air vent is uneven

Another question that is often asked when talking to customers is: why does Caleffi offer so many different air vents? Wouldn't one be enough? The answer has already been given and is: no, one is not enough. The company's goal is to provide an optimal solution tailored to a given situation, hence as many as 6 different series of air vents to choose from. Such a wide scope results from several decades of experience in providing elements for sanitary and heating installations, and, consequently, many interesting issues and challenges that Caleffi engineers from the CUBOROSSO research and development center had to face.

We will demonstrate the importance of selecting the appropriate type of air vent using the example of Robocal, DiscalAir and Maxcal series products.

Each of the above-mentioned elements will be called a float vent, but the differences between them are visible at first glance. Just as you won't drive a Formula 1 car into a muddy area strewn with boulders, in the case of an air vent, you need to take into account its operating conditions to choose the right solution . Thanks to the experience in air removal acquired over several decades of design and production, Caleffi is able to select and propose the optimal product for each installation.
