How to care for the ventilation system?

Added: Friday, 5/5/2023

Adequate ventilation in your house or apartment allows for air exchange. This ensures healthy indoor conditions. Properly selected ventilation also allows you to purify the air from various microorganisms. Today we will tell you how to properly take care of ventilation.

What types of ventilation are there?

Thanks to good ventilation, the air inside the building is replaced with fresh air taken from outside. This solution ensures that moisture will not accumulate in the house or mold will form.   Ventilation   it also cleanses the air of carbon dioxide, particles and dust, as well as mites and fine dust. Additionally, it removes unpleasant odors. We can distinguish three types of ventilation:

  • gravity (otherwise known as natural) - its method of operation is very simple, namely it uses the difference between the density of the air outside and inside.
  • mechanical - works by regulating air exchange. The movement is forced by fans that are part of the installation. It is very efficient.
  • hybrid - combines gravity and mechanical ventilation solutions. When gravity ventilation is insufficient or unprofitable, mechanical air exchange occurs.

How to care for your ventilation system?

The ventilation installation should be efficient, because this allows you to enjoy healthy air, but also avoid problems with fungi and mold. However, you need to remember one important thing, which is that you need to take care of the ventilation system. It is recommended to clean the ventilation ducts once every few years. Most often, they should be performed every 5-6 years. This allows you to avoid major failures. You need to take particular care of the mechanical ventilation system.

It is also worth remembering that there are symptoms of improperly functioning ventilation. These include:

  • foggy windows
  • water condensing on the windows
  • the appearance of moisture in the house
  • the appearance of an unpleasant odor in the house
  • noise from the fan

These symptoms indicate that specific components may be damaged. You also need to remember to replace the reduction, which may wear out. Here we recommend galvanized models, which are resistant to corrosion, but also to loads and even heating. It is also worth considering replacement   muff , which is used to connect fittings and also in this case it is best to choose a galvanized model. They also play an important role   fans , which may be damaged and can also be replaced if necessary.

In addition, ventilation duct systems should be regularly inspected. It's best to do this at least once a year. This way, you can avoid major breakdowns that would be expensive to repair.

Ventilation with heat recovery - why is it worth checking filters?

Mechanical ventilation recuperators are equipped with filters, i.e. necessary accessories for recuperation . They play a very important role because they protect the heat exchangers against dirt. Filters are subject to replacement. Most often, their condition can be checked by removing them from the cassette located on the housing. If the color is dark gray, it means it's time to replace it. If the recuperator is older, the front panel must be unscrewed. If the filter is slightly dirty, you can vacuum it and put it back in the cassette. You also need to take care of the air intake and exhaust. It is best to clean them in spring, when plant dust is high. You also need to clean the air intake in the fall, as leaves may get into it. Every few years you need to clean the pipes using an air brush.

How to choose a roof fan and when is it used?

Roof fans are used in places where there is a low level of air pollution . They can be elements of a mechanical ventilation system, but they also support natural, i.e. gravity, ventilation. They are responsible for removing polluted air and keeping it at a safe level. For ventilation to work effectively, you should choose roof exhaust fans that have a single-phase electric motor. There should be overload protection in the winding. Thanks to the roof fan, there is no need to use an air intake or exhaust fan. Its maintenance and possible replacement are simple and quick.
