Soda One LED Lamps - A sensible alternative for lighting modernization

Added: Thursday, 11/27/2025

For several years, we have been observing the process of replacing old mercury or sodium lighting fixtures with modern, integrated LED fixtures. This is an irreversible trend, as EU regulations have introduced a ban on the use of products containing mercury compounds and those with insufficient efficiency. An important reason is also the improvement of lighting conditions to offer users greater comfort while moving in illuminated spaces.

However, there are situations where replacing the currently used lighting fixtures — especially those that are still in good technical condition — with significantly more expensive comprehensive integrated LED systems is not always economically justified. It is also necessary to consider the time-consuming nature of the entire process of new, comprehensive investments, including designing a new system, formal procedures, final implementation of the new investment, and inspections. This causes noticeable inconveniences for road users and public spaces during the implementation of the new investment.

New ecological trends related to extending the life cycle of devices

New ecological trends are emerging, indicating the extension of the lifespan of functional devices so that they can serve users longer, thereby reducing the generation of increasing amounts of waste. This is also significant in lighting systems, where the number of devices emitting light is very large.LED tubular lamp T46 E27 6700Lm 36W 110-240V 4000K FIL LED Soda One LED-3136

All these issues force us to analyze the problem more deeply and consider whether in every case spending financial resources on expensive lighting systems is always the best solution?

There are intermediate solutions that provide users with improved lighting conditions while maintaining financial savings, avoiding the undertaking of time-consuming investments related to replacing the entire lighting system with a new one.

An example of this is the new LED Soda One lamps from HELIOS.

New LED Soda One lamps are an alternative to old discharge lamps

From a practical point of view, the new SODA ONE LED lamps from HELIOS are an alternative to old discharge lamps and at the same time fit well into new ecological trends, extending the lifespan of currently used, functional lighting fixtures. These lamps can be used in existing mercury, sodium, metal halide, or incandescent fixtures operating at 230V, provided that the fixtures are technically sound.

Among all the lighting fixtures used in public spaces, sodium fixtures with 70W E27 lamps have the largest share. The new LED Soda One lamp with a power of 36W is an alternative to conventional 70W sodium lamps because it has very similar dimensions, the same base for mounting in the lighting fixture, and most importantly, it produces the same light output of 6700 lm. Additionally, the user has the option to choose the emitted light color as the LED Soda One lamps are available in a warm color version of 2700K (similar to the color of light emitted by sodium lamps) or emit a neutral color of 4000K, which gives a whiter light, similar to the light from metal halide lamps. An important issue is also the high color rendering index of illuminated objects, which significantly improves the comfort of vision for users utilizing spaces illuminated by lamps from HELIOS. Compared to conventional lighting using sodium or mercury lamps, we achieve a noticeable improvement in lighting conditions.

The new family of LED Soda One lamps also includes lamps with higher power and higher luminous flux up to 13,000lm, in two light color options (2700K or 4000K), offering users the freedom of choice.

Advantages of LED Soda One lamps:

  • high luminous efficacy of 186 lm/W
  • energy class B – real economic savings
  • no mercury content, no plastic
  • instant lamp ignition within 1 second – discharge lamps need several minutes to reach full luminous flux
  • the same light incidence angle as in discharge lamps – fully utilizes the reflector of the fixture, which does not worsen the lighting conditions of a given surface
  • power of 36W E27 – equivalent to a 70W WLS lamp (same luminous flux of 6700lm, base, and size)
  • two light colors to choose from: warm 2700K or neutral 4000K
