NH fuses and CS housings

In this article you will read about:

Characteristics and use of NH type fuses, cylindrical fuses, D0 and D type fuses. Additionally, we have prepared the characteristics of the CS housing that protects the control equipment.

NH fuses

Eaton NH fuses are made using the latest technology to ensure the best quality and reliable operation. The range of fuses complies with the requirements of the IEC 602366-1 and -2 standards, the VDE 0636-2 standard and meets the dimensional requirements of the DIN 43620 standard. NH fuses have a high breaking capacity of up to 120 kA, operating voltages of 400, 500 and 690 V, current rated up to 1250 A and characteristics gG, aM, gFF. Other features of the NH range of fuses are listed below.

  • The dual indicator system is a patented Eaton solution that provides a clear indication of fuse status. This makes local and remote (using an optional microswitch) signaling available, which shortens the time needed to replace fuse links and restore power to the protected circuit. The inserts are also available with insulated terminals.
  • Eaton's 'low power loss' fuse links have reduced power losses and help reduce overall operating costs. Thanks to this, the so-called the carbon footprint and, consequently, energy consumption and the amount of heat released into the environment are lower.
  • Eaton is the world's first manufacturer of a complete range of lead- and cadmium-free NH fuses. The fuses meet all standards regarding number.
  • Eaton is committed to producing recyclable products and participates in an industrial recycling program.

For NH inserts, the following are available: fuse bases: 1-pole marked with the symbol SDx for sizes 00 to 4 and 3-pole TDx for sizes 00 to 3, where the letter x from the marking codes the overall size.

Cylindrical fuses

Eaton cylindrical fuses

Cylindrical fuses are available in three sizes 10x38 mm, 14x51 mm and 22x58 mm with rated currents up to 125 A and gG and aM characteristics. The rated voltages of the fuse links are 400 V, 500 V and 690 V. The breaking capacity up to 120 kA depends on the size and rated current of the fuse. Dimensions 14x51 and 22x58 are also available with a punch for remote signaling via an optional micro-relay of fuse activation.

A wide range of fuse bases is available for inserts. The CHM series is dedicated to sizes 10x38 and is available in three versions:

  • for IEC 690 V AC installations (marked in red),
  • for UL installations (black color),
  • for PV installations (yellow).

The CHM series for IEC installations is available in a variant with or without trip indication, as well as in 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-pole variants, with 1- and 3-pole versions also available with a neutral pole. For cylindrical inserts 14x51 there are CH14x bases (Fig.7), and for sizes 22x58 there are CH22x bases (Fig.8). Both base sizes are 1- to 4-pole variants. The range of bases for cylindrical inserts is complemented by, among others: elements for remote monitoring of fuses or 1- and 3-phase busbars.

D0 and D type fuses

D0 and D type fuses were designed to protect industrial installations, they are also used in home installations. D0 inserts in sizes D01, D02 and D03 have a nominal current range of up to 100 A with an operating voltage of 400 V and a capacity of 50 kA. The characteristics of these inserts are delayed (gG) and ultrafast (aR) . D inserts in sizes DI, DII, DIII, DIV and DV cover a current range of up to 200 A at a voltage of 500 V AC and a breaking capacity of up to 50 kA.

The offer for types D0 and D includes fuse heads, calibration elements and 1- and 3-pole fuse bases in both board and DIN rail mounting versions.

CS housings

The series of stable CS enclosures made of solid sheet steel is ideal wherever effective protection against direct contact with live equipment is required. The high IP66 protection level not only provides full protection against the most unfavorable environmental conditions, but also effectively protects systems and devices inside the switchgear. A cast polyurethane gasket ensures tightness of the housing.

Properly profiled edges of the casing and door allow water to drain away and provide protection against the ingress of water, oil or dirt into the casing when opening it. IK09 shock resistance in accordance with EN 62262 is maintained thanks to the stable metal structure, made of durable steel up to 2 mm thick (depending on size). Therefore, the internal equipment of the housings is also protected against mechanical damage.

In addition to free-standing installation, CS housings can be installed as wall-mounted housings. As standard, the cabinets are powder coated in RAL 7035 (gray), which ensures non-abrasive properties and protection against corrosion. The cabinet door can be easily removed for further work, which facilitates access to the interior of the switchgear. The hinges hidden inside the door are easy to remove, allowing you to quickly and easily change the door opening direction. The type of switchgear also describes its dimensions (e.g. CS-32/150 dimensions: height 300, width 200 and depth 150 [mm]). This greatly simplifies the switchgear selection process.

Operator panels or RMQ series equipment can be used in CS switchboards without reducing the IP 66 protection level. This is due to the fact that the equipment has a high IP69K protection level. The cabinets are available in 45 sizes. CS metal housings have a wide range of applications - especially in industry, where they protect control equipment against moisture and contamination.
