Selected microorganisms play a key role in neutralizing contaminants, and further cleaning takes place in the plot (mechanical filtration process). The entire cycle consists of the following steps:
- directing sewage to the septic tank;
- the process of methane fermentation, in which anaerobic microorganisms decompose organic matter;
- directing the pre-treated waste to the distribution well and then to the drainage pipe system (plots);
- aerobic treatment (aeration) using oxygen supplied via aeration mushrooms;
- infiltration of sewage from drainage pipes laid on permeable soil - for example, a layer of gravel - and further cleaning of impurities by decomposition using aerobic microorganisms.
To ensure appropriate conditions and effectiveness of treatment, a home sewage treatment plant may be equipped with additional elements, such as an absorption well or an aeration well.
