What is a drainage sewage treatment plant?

Sewage treatment plant with drainage Graf EPURBIO6 (RLM6) 2700L Drainage treatment plants are installations designed to neutralize sewage from properties not connected to the municipal sewage network . They consist of two basic elements - a septic tank and a drainage system. The former is where the initial sewage treatment takes place. Then they are directed to the distribution well and through a system of drainage pipes to the filtration plot.

There, through natural biological processes and filtration in the ground, the sewage undergoes final treatment. After such treatment, they can safely be released into groundwater or soil. Drainage treatment plants are an attractive solution for investors in many respects. They are cheap to maintain, comfortable, environmentally friendly and, most importantly, they enable effective neutralization of impurities.

Application of drainage treatment plants

  • soil permeability : drainage treatment plants require soil with good or at least medium permeability;
  • groundwater level : installation of drainage pipes cannot take place in soil where the groundwater level is higher than 2 meters.

Provided these conditions are met, a drainage treatment plant can be built on many types of properties. The primary purpose of this type of installation is home use. Depending on the size of the septic tank and drainage plot, they can be used on both small and large farms. Large drainage treatment plants are perfect for commercial and public facilities. This group includes, among others: campsites, agritourism farms, small recreation centers or plants employing a small or medium number of employees.

How do drainage treatment plants work?

The operation of drainage treatment plants is based on a two-stage sewage treatment process: in a septic tank (anaerobic treatment) and in seepage drainage (aerobic treatment). Selected microorganisms play a key role in neutralizing contaminants, and further cleaning takes place in the plot (mechanical filtration process). The entire cycle consists of the following steps: GRAF geotextile roll 0.5x50m for drainage treatment plant

  1. directing sewage to the septic tank;
  2. sedimentation process, i.e. solid components of sewage falling to the bottom of the septic tank;
  3. the process of methane fermentation, in which anaerobic microorganisms decompose organic matter;
  4. directing the pre-treated waste to the distribution well and then to the drainage pipe system (plots);
  5. aerobic treatment (aeration) using oxygen supplied via aeration mushrooms;
  6. infiltration of sewage from drainage pipes laid on permeable soil - for example, a layer of gravel - and further cleaning of impurities by decomposition using aerobic microorganisms.

To ensure appropriate conditions and effectiveness of treatment, a home sewage treatment plant may be equipped with additional elements, such as an absorption well or an aeration well.
