To control hydraulic systems and drives, valves are necessary to redirect the flow of the working medium to the appropriate place. Switching their status remotely is possible using the electrical system. The operator can control the entire system from one place by pressing buttons and pulling levers. This solution also works in semi-automatic and automatic hydraulic systems. Check in which specific cases solenoid valves are most often used.

Where are solenoid valves used?
Solenoid valves are widely used in industrial automation systems. They are also elements of construction machinery systems. They can be found in passenger cars and home plumbing installations. Solenoid valves Allow precise control of the flow of water, gases and working fluids. Therefore, different types of solenoid valves can be distinguished.
Diaphragm solenoid valve
In industrial applications, diaphragm solenoid valves are most often used. The material from which the diaphragm is made is very important for the use of a given valve. Ethylene-propylene-diene plastic, called EPDM, can work up to temperatures of 140°C. Unfortunately, this solution does not work when used with oiled air, because the valve is quickly damaged. Therefore, membranes made of acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR, up to 90°C) or fluorine rubber (FKM, up to 140°C) are used.
Methods of operation and application of solenoid valves
There are three types of solenoid valves in terms of their operation:
- Direct acting solenoid valve. Their greatest advantage is the ability to open at a differential pressure of 0 bar, even without a working medium in the installation. However, this is also related to their biggest disadvantage - opening the flow requires significant energy, which means that the flow diameter is limited to 3/8" by most manufacturers.
- Indirect acting solenoid valve. They have small servo motors that are supported by the pressure difference on both sides of the membrane. In order to open the flow, it is enough to unblock a small channel used to equalize the pressure of the working medium.
- Combined action valves. It combines the advantages of both previously mentioned solutions. A small piston is attached directly to the membrane, unlocking a small hole. In this way, the pressure difference on both sides can be equalized. However, the presence of the working medium is not required to close or open the flow.
When choosing the appropriate model, first of all, pay attention to the valve diameter and the need for its operation without pressure inside the installation. These factors mainly determine which solution will work best.
What models of solenoid valves can be found on Onninen?
Onninen plumbing wholesaler supplies a full selection of solenoid valves for all applications.
EV electro-shut-off valves are very popular, including the Danfoss EV 220A NC G1/2" shut-off solenoid valve , used in pneumatic systems. Some of them are sold as a valve only, without an electric coil responsible for its control. However, the wholesaler's offer includes also DC 24V coils, including a coil for the Danfoss BN 24V DC max 160C solenoid valve , operating at temperatures of 160°C or higher, so you can easily complete the entire order.
You should also pay attention to the type of device. The Socla 1/2" WKB2 solenoid valve with a coil (sold complete with a coil) requires an electric signal to open the flow of the working fluid.
In contrast, the Socla 3/4" WZB2 solenoid valve with a coil (also with an electric coil) cuts off the flow under the influence of the voltage that appears. The difference between them becomes visible primarily in the event of an installation failure. Then the current flow stops and the valve adjusts itself. in the starting position.
For very large diameters, it is worth choosing a DN65 230VAC flanged solenoid valve . This is an excellent solution for high pressures and flows because the mounting is very strong and durable.
A solenoid valve for every need
Many installations and systems require controlling the flow of working fluid for proper operation. The solenoid valve allows for automatic control systems compatible with the programmed controller, and the flow is opened and closed without operator intervention. However, not every model will work equally well. Therefore, call us or write to us if you have any doubts when choosing the right solenoid valve. We will always help, using our knowledge and experience.
