Solution for effective drainage of entrance areas

This element is a key component of the ACO Vario mat system, designed specifically for installation in transition zones where effective removal of water and dirt from footwear is required. Made of durable polymer concrete, combining the properties of concrete with the resistance of plastics, this element ensures stability and longevity even in outdoor conditions. Thanks to the use of galvanized steel edges, the construction gains additional mechanical protection and an aesthetic finish that looks good both indoors and outdoors.

Dimensions of 750 x 500 mm and a low construction height (80 mm) mean the base fits perfectly into standard mounting openings, without requiring deep excavations or complex earthworks. Inside the body, reinforcing ribs increase the stiffness of the entire structure and allow for safe transfer of loads resulting from pedestrian traffic and the passage of wheelchairs. Load class A-15 (in accordance with EN 1433) clearly defines the scope of application – the product is intended for pedestrian zones and is not suitable for areas where the passage of cars or trucks is expected.

Application and functionality of the system

This base is a modular element of the ACO Vario system, which means it can be easily connected to various types of grilles and mats (e.g., from loop pile or rubber), adapting the solution to the specific aesthetic and functional needs of the facility. A centrally located drainage outlet with a diameter of 110 mm (DN 110) enables quick and efficient drainage of water into the sewage system or linear drainage systems. Such a layout prevents water from accumulating on the surface of the mat, which is crucial for maintaining cleanliness and user safety – a wet floor is often the cause of slips.

The polymer concrete material is characterized by high resistance to atmospheric factors, including frost and UV radiation. Thanks to this, the element does not crack under the influence of low temperatures and does not fade in the sun, maintaining its properties for many years of operation. The simple construction facilitates installation even for persons without specialized construction training – it is sufficient to prepare the appropriate substrate (e.g., a layer of gravel or concrete), set the base, and connect the drainage pipe.

Key construction features and operating conditions

The body is made of polymer concrete, and the edge of galvanized steel – this combination ensures the durability of concrete along with the corrosion resistance of metal. The whole meets the requirements of load class A-15 in accordance with EN 1433, making it safe for pedestrian and wheelchair traffic; however, it should be remembered that it is not adapted for vehicular traffic. A ready-made hole with a diameter of ∅ 110 mm facilitates quick connection to the sewage system without the need to drill additional holes at the installation site. The compact form with dimensions of 75 cm by 50 cm and a height of only 8 cm is ideal for entrance doors or warehouse halls. The material exhibits high environmental resistance – it is frost-resistant and UV-resistant, allowing installation in places fully exposed to atmospheric conditions. Additionally, this element is compatible with other components of the ACO Vario system (steel, aluminum grilles, or rubber mats).

Thanks to its versatility and ease of installation, this base is suitable for both small single-family houses as an element in front of the main entrance, and for larger public facilities or logistics warehouses as part of a system protecting against moisture entering the building. However, it is important to remember the limitations regarding the load class – when planning the installation, it is necessary to ensure that it will not be exposed to heavier vehicles than those foreseen by the manufacturer.
