Hybrid ventilation system AWENTIS Ø100 ECONOMY AW100
Hybrid Ventilation System with Automatic Damper
This solution enables ventilation of two rooms using a single ventilation duct, eliminating the need for two separate pipes. The system operates on a combination of gravity and mechanical ventilation, with a movable damper playing a key role by automatically directing airflow depending on the operating mode.
When the fan is off, air exchange occurs naturally through a ventilation grille installed in one of the inlets. When an exhaust fan connected to the second inlet is switched on, the damper closes the gravity channel and directs the entire airflow through the fan. This ensures fast and effective air exchange, for example after cooking, without the need for manual switching.
Construction and Application
Made from ABS plastic, the system is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and requires no special protection against moisture, although it is not intended for installation in areas exposed to direct water contact (IPX4). The 100 mm diameter corresponds to standard duct dimensions in residential construction, facilitating integration with existing installations.
Application is simpler than it seems: simply connect one side to a ventilation grille (e.g., above the kitchen), the other to an exhaust fan (e.g., a hood), and install the entire unit into a vertical ventilation duct. The absence of additional components—such as K-G boards or trim covers—makes it ideal for installers who want to save installation time and avoid excessive structural congestion.
In practice, it works well in both kitchens and bathrooms, especially where space is limited and intensive air exchange is required periodically. It does not generate noise on its own; noise comes only from the fan, which operates only when needed.
Advantages for Installer and User
- One duct = two rooms – no need to make two holes in the wall or ceiling.
- Automatic switching – no manual damper control required.
- No additional components – nothing to install except the duct and the fan.
- Compliance with standards – 100 mm diameter is the most common size in single-family homes.
- Operates without electricity – when the fan is off, the system still exchanges air via gravity.
- Quiet and efficient – no "wind" or noise except during fan operation.
This solution is not suitable for every home—but if you have two rooms close to each other (e.g., kitchen + bathroom) and want to avoid a complicated installation, this is one of the simplest ways to achieve effective ventilation.
