Freeze protection valve – protection of installations and equipment
This brass freeze protection valve, designed for use in installations with heat pumps, is a key element protecting against damage caused by low temperatures. Its operation is based on the automatic draining of the medium from the installation when the temperature drops to 3°C, preventing the formation of ice and bursting of pipelines and system components. This simple solution minimizes the risk of costly repairs and downtime during the winter period.
Construction and principle of operation
The valve is made of high-quality brass, which guarantees its durability and corrosion resistance. Its design allows for slow, controlled outflow of the medium, ensuring effective protection without sudden changes in pressure in the installation. Thus, the valve not only protects against freezing but also helps maintain stable system operating conditions. The closing temperature of the drain is 4°C, which minimizes heat loss.
The valve works in a simple way: when the medium temperature drops below 3°C, the closing element opens the drain, allowing water to flow out. When the temperature rises above 4°C, the drain is automatically closed. In versions with an air sensor, the valve allows the installation to operate in cooling mode even at temperatures below 3°C, which is particularly useful in air conditioning and heating systems.
Key parameters and application
Maximum working pressure: 10 bar – ensures safe operation in standard heating installations.
Operating temperature range: 0–65 °C – enables the use of the valve in a wide range of operating temperatures.
Ambient temperature range: -30–60 °C – guarantees reliable operation even in extreme weather conditions.
Connection: GZ 1” (also available in versions with other connections: 1 1/4”, 1 1/2” and for copper pipe Ø28).
Material: Brass – ensures durability and corrosion resistance.
The valve is widely used in central heating installations with heat pumps, especially monoblock type, where the refrigerant circuit is closed in the outdoor unit. Installing two valves – on the supply and return – provides comprehensive freeze protection for the entire system. This is particularly important in places exposed to severe frosts or frequent power outages.
