Complete connection solution for PV string installations

The Doktorvolt DC photovoltaic distribution board supports two independent strings (module chains), making it a suitable choice for both smaller single-phase systems and as an expansion module in larger configurations based on string inverters.

T1+T2 Surge Protection

The core of the protection consists of two Mersen STPT12-5K1000V-YPV surge arresters - a renowned manufacturer specializing in surge protection components. The combination of T1 and T2 classes provides full protection on two levels:

• T1 (class I) - absorbs direct lightning strikes (impulse current up to 40 kA Imax, test current 20 kA In)
• T2 (class II) - protects against operational surges generated by inverters and grid switching

The voltage protection level Up < 4.0 kV effectively reduces peak voltage values to safe limits for connected devices. The maximum operating voltage is 1000 V DC, and the continuous voltage Uc reaches 1060 V DC, allowing for the construction of strings with high-voltage modules used in modern installations.

Both arresters operate in parallel - each protects a separate string, so a failure of one does not affect the operation of the other path.

Enclosure and operating conditions

The enclosure made of technopolymer provides excellent electrical insulation while maintaining mechanical resistance. Transparent polycarbonate doors allow for monitoring the wiring status without the need to open the distribution board. The EPDM rubber seal maintains flexibility at both low temperatures (does not harden in frost) and high temperatures (does not soften in heat).

The IP65 protection rating guarantees full dust tightness and resistance to water jets from any direction - essential for outdoor mounting exposed to weather conditions. Stainless steel mounting screws eliminate the risk of corrosion even in humid environments.

The compact form (215 × 210 × 100 mm) fits on surface-mounted surfaces without additional installation work. The gray color RAL 7035 blends well with typical building facades.

Wiring, connections, and completeness

The interior is factory-wired with BiT BiT 1000 solar cables (black and red, cross-section 6 mm²) and a yellow-green H07V-K control wire (16 mm²) for grounding connections. The installer receives a ready-to-use distribution board - it is only necessary to connect the strings from the PV module side and the cables going to the inverter.

The set includes a PG-11 cable gland and a complete set of solar connectors (4× female + 4× male). The additional set of connectors is a significant equipment element - European standards IEC 62548 and IEC 60364-7-712:2017 strictly prohibit mixing DC connectors from different manufacturers due to the risk of installation fire resulting from the geometric mismatch of contacts.

Solar connectors operate at voltages up to 1000 V AC/DC, withstand an impulse voltage of 8 kV, and have an IP67 protection rating.

Certification and standards

The distribution board meets the requirements of EU directives confirmed by the CE certificate and standards EN 50539-11 (European standard for photovoltaic surge arresters) and IEC 61643-31 (international technical standard for SPD-DC).

The manufacturer has implemented a quality management system certified by TÜV SÜD according to ISO 9001:2015 and IEC 61439 standards - this ensures production repeatability and consistency of parameters between units delivered to customers.
