Weather-resistant enclosure

The photovoltaic distribution box is enclosed in a technopolymer housing - a plastic with high mechanical and chemical resistance. Compared to metal distribution boxes, technopolymer does not corrode, which is crucial for installations operating for years in the open air. The door is made of polycarbonate, which maintains transparency and impact strength even at low temperatures.

The IP65 protection rating means full dust-tightness and protection against water jets from any direction. The EPDM rubber (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) seal maintains flexibility across a wide temperature range - it does not harden in the frost nor soften in the sun. The mounting screws are made of stainless steel, so they do not require periodic tightening or replacement.

The enclosure has dimensions of 290 × 260 × 133 mm (with PG cable glands, the width increases to 288 mm). The RAL 7035 grey color blends well with typical facade and roof surfaces. Surface mounting allows for quick installation without interfering with the building structure.

T1+T2 class surge protection

Three VAL-MS-T1/T2 surge arresters are responsible for protecting the DC circuits. The T1+T2 class combination is a two-stage solution - T1 handles extreme lightning surges (impulse current up to 40 kA Imax, test current 15 kA In), while T2 protects against smaller but more frequent voltage spikes originating from grid switching and atmospheric phenomena.

The maximum operating voltage is 1000V DC (Un), and taking a safety margin into account, 1050V DC (Uc) is permissible. The voltage protection level is Up < 3.5 kV - this is low enough to effectively reduce the impulse surge before it reaches the PV modules or the inverter.

String configuration and wiring

The distribution box supports three independent DC strings - a typical configuration for smaller PV installations or as an intermediate point for string splitting before a multi-string inverter. Each string enters through a separate cable gland:

  • power input (+/-): dedicated PG-11 glands
  • string output to the inverter or the next box: PG-7 glands

Inside, the installation is made with H07V-K 16 mm² cross-section protective conductor in yellow-green, which ensures adequate current-carrying capacity with low voltage drops even over longer cable routes.

Certificates and quality standards

The manufacturer - Doktorvolt - has implemented a production management system certified by TÜV SÜD and the ISO 9001:2015 standard. The distribution box itself meets the requirements of the CE EU directive, the IEC 61439 standard for switchgear assemblies, and IEC 61643-11 for surge arresters.

The materials used comply with the directive on the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS, EU 2002/95/EC) and the CEI 23-48 standard. The enclosure also meets environmental restrictions - the absence of deca-BDE in the plastic composition is confirmed by the manufacturer's declaration.
