WALLBOX wall-mounted charging station 22 kW type 2 Doktorvolt 8690 DV-8690-EV
Safe electric vehicle charging for home and semi-professional conditions
The WALLBOX charging station by Doktorvolt is a compact device designed for alternating current (AC) power supply for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles equipped with a Type 2 socket. The device operates in Mode-3, which means full communication between the station and the vehicle - the car draws exactly as much energy as it is able to accept at any given moment.
Charging power is automatically regulated in the range from 3.7 to 22 kW, allowing for flexible adaptation to the building's available connection power and the current battery state. With a three-phase installation (400 V) and a rated load of 32 A, the station reaches its full peak power - a typical battery with a capacity of 60-80 kWh can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 2-3 hours, depending on the vehicle model.
The Type 2 socket, meeting the requirements of the IEC 62196-2 standard, ensures compatibility with most European and Asian electric car brands - from Volkswagen and BMW, through Mercedes and Audi, to Tesla (with an adapter or factory Type 2 port). The housing does not have a mechanical socket lock, which facilitates daily plugging and unplugging of the cable.
Communication with the vehicle is handled by a built-in charging controller - a chip managing data exchange between the station and the car. In the event of an anomaly (overheating, short circuit, communication error), the controller automatically interrupts the charging process, protecting both the building's electrical installation and the vehicle's powertrain.
The user operates the device using a START/STOP button with an illuminated LED. The indicator signals the current operating status - standby mode, active charging, or error - using pulsing impulses. This makes the device status legible even from several meters away, e.g., from a house window.
The station is equipped with a complete set of overcurrent and residual current protections: a C32A circuit breaker protects the installation from the effects of overload or short circuit in the station's supply circuit, while a Type A RCD + RCM module detects leakage differential currents and immediately disconnects the power in the event of an electric shock or fire hazard. The RCM (Residual Current Monitor) module monitors insulation integrity in real-time during charging - this is an additional layer of protection required by standards for Mode-3 devices.
Durable housing adapted to outdoor conditions
The housing is made of high-impact plastic resistant to UV radiation - it does not crack or fade under years of sun exposure. The front plate is gray, and the rear is black; this combination allows the device to be discreetly integrated into a building facade or allows for flexible color selection during installation.
The IP54 protection rating means full housing tightness against dust and protection against water splashes from any angle - the station works well mounted on a garage wall, carport, or building facade without the need to build an additional cover.
The housing dimensions without sockets are 355 × 255 × 125 mm, making it one of the smaller ones on the market in the 22 kW wallbox category - it will fit even in small spaces by a side garage wall or in a basement corner. An inspection window accommodating 12 modules allows free access to modular components during potential servicing or expansion of the device's internal electrical installation.
A PG21 cable gland is used for connecting the power cable from the distribution board side, although English-language sources also mention a PG16 gland - the difference may result from different production batches or configuration options.
The device operates stably in temperatures from −20 °C to +50 °C, so it will handle both a freezing Polish winter and a hot summer. The construction is stationary - intended for permanent mounting on a wall using standard wall brackets.
Certificates, standards, and installation conditions
The WALLBOX DV-8690-EV station has passed TÜV SÜD certification and meets the requirements of the CE directive, confirming compliance with European safety standards for electrical installation devices. Production takes place under the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
The IEC 61439 standard concerns low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies - it confirms the mechanical strength of the housing and pop
