Halogen-free power cable – safety and reliability in one installation
N2XH-J 5x4 RE (B2ca) is an advanced solution for electrical installations where fire safety and minimal emission of hazardous substances in case of failure are top priorities. Designed for low-voltage power transmission (0.6/1 kV), it performs reliably in both power and control applications. Its construction, based on copper conductors insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), ensures stable operation and long-term durability.
Construction and properties
This cable features a halogen-free outer sheath made of polyolefin, significantly reducing the emission of toxic gases during a fire. This is critical in public buildings, industrial facilities, and any location requiring high fire safety standards. Five conductors with a cross-section of 4 mm² provide sufficient current-carrying capacity for diverse applications. The conductors are twisted, enhancing cable flexibility and simplifying installation. Additionally, the absence of a shield or armor results in a relatively small outer diameter of approximately 12.7 mm, facilitating routing in confined spaces.
Applications and benefits
This cable is widely used in fixed installations, both indoor and outdoor (provided protection against atmospheric conditions is ensured). It is ideal for powering electrical devices, lighting systems, and control circuits. Complying with the B2ca standard (EN 13501-6), it delivers high fire protection performance: the B2ca fire reaction class indicates limited flammability, low smoke emission (s1b), and no dripping or flaming particles (d0). This makes it an optimal choice for investors prioritizing the safety of people and property. The maximum allowable conductor operating temperature is 90°C, enabling reliable performance under demanding thermal conditions. The minimum bending radius for fixed installation is 152.4 mm – this must be considered when designing the cable route.
