Toroidal current transformer CTE-80 – precise current measurement for safety and efficiency
The CTE-80 toroidal current transformer is a reliable device used to measure current in electrical circuits. Designed to work with residual current devices (RCDs), it allows for effective detection of leakage and short-circuit currents, protecting the installation and connected devices. Its construction allows for easy installation, even without disconnecting the circuit.
Construction and application
The CTE-80 transformer is based on a core made of high-permeability steel sheets, which guarantees measurement accuracy even with very small currents. The device is designed to work with phase and neutral wires in single- and three-phase networks. Thanks to its construction, the transformer reads the vector sum of the currents, transmitting a signal corresponding to the leakage current to the secondary winding. This is crucial in anti-shock protection systems and in monitoring the insulation condition.
The applications of the CTE-80 transformer include:
- Protection against differential currents: detecting unwanted current leakage to ground.
- Insulation condition monitoring: early detection of damage to the insulation of wires and devices.
- Line protection: protection against short circuits and overloads.
- Specialized applications: detecting leakage currents in transformer connections, multi-section lines, or when transformers are operated in parallel.
- Functional tests: possibility of checking the operation of residual current devices.
Characteristics and advantages
The CTE-80 transformer is distinguished by several important features:
- 80 mm passage diameter: allows use with wires with a cross-section of up to 80 mm.
- Transformation ratio 80A/5A: provides an appropriate output signal for cooperation with protective relays.
- Power 5VA: guarantees stable operation of the device under given loads.
- Universal mounting: can be installed in any position, making it easy to adapt to specific installation conditions.
- Solid construction: ensures durability and reliability of the device even in harsh working conditions (operating temperature -10°C to 70°C).
- Possibility of installation without disconnecting the circuit: thanks to the split core, the transformer can be mounted without interrupting the power supply (in the case of purchasing a version with a split core).
- Safety: The transformer has 2.5 kV insulation for 60 seconds, ensuring a high level of safety.
It is important to remember to connect the wires correctly – all phase and neutral wires should pass through the hole in the transformer, and grounding wires should not be inside it. It is recommended to use a shielded signal cable routed away from high-voltage wires to minimize interference.
