Medium Voltage VV Fuse Links – Reliable Installation Protection
VV fuse links are a proven protection element in medium voltage networks. Designed to protect electrical and power equipment MV (cables, conductors, transformers, motors, capacitor banks) against the effects of short circuits and overloads. Particularly the VVT-D3 model, thanks to the use of a thermal trigger, provides additional protection against uncontrolled temperature increases.
Construction and operating principle
VVT-D3 fuse links are equipped with a thermal trigger, which activates the striker with a force of 80N when the fuse body reaches a temperature of approximately 120°C – regardless of the cause of the temperature increase. This design is particularly recommended for use in switchgear with SF6 gas. The striker indicates the operation of the fuse link and activates the tripping mechanism of the power fuses. High reliability is guaranteed by a hermetic sealing system protecting against moisture and a high-strength ceramic tube. Galvanically protected contacts made of electrolytic copper coated with nickel ensure optimal electrical connection.
Key parameters and application
The VVT-D3 12kV/10A fuse link is characterized by a breaking capacity of 63 kA. This is the value defining the maximum short-circuit current that the fuse link can safely interrupt. Additionally, it has a cold resistance of 130 mΩ and a power loss of 15 W at the rated current. The minimum I²t pre-arc integral is 165 A²s, and the maximum I²t max is 1450 A²s. These parameters allow for precise selection of the fuse link to specific operating conditions and ensure effective protection of the installation. The rated current of this fuse link is 10A at a rated AC voltage of 12kV and a frequency of 50/60 Hz.
