Medium voltage fuse links – reliable installation protection
VV fuse links are a proven element of protection in medium voltage (MV) networks. They serve to protect electrical and power equipment – cables, conductors, transformers, motors, and capacitor banks – against the effects of short circuits and overloads. The VVT-D3 model is additionally distinguished by a built-in thermal trigger, which reacts to an increase in the housing temperature, providing an additional level of safety.
Construction and operating principle
VVT-D3 fuse links are equipped with a striker with a force of 80N. Its task is to quickly and clearly indicate the operation of the fuse link and activate the disconnecting mechanism. The thermal trigger in VVT-D3 models activates the striker when the housing temperature reaches approximately 120°C, regardless of the cause of the temperature increase. This design is particularly recommended for use in switchgear with SF6 gas. The fuse links are characterized by a reliable sealing system protecting against moisture and a high-strength ceramic tube. Galvanically protected and nickel-plated electrolytic copper contacts ensure a durable connection.
Parameters and application
The VVT-D3 12kV/4A fuse link is designed to operate in alternating current (AC) networks with a rated voltage of 6/12 kV and a frequency of 50/60 Hz. The rated short-circuit breaking current is as high as 63 kA, which guarantees effective protection of the installation even in the event of serious failures. The minimum breaking current is 20A, which means that the fuse link will effectively react to overloads above this value. Cold resistance is 650 mΩ and power loss is 15W. The I²t min pre-arcing integral is 17.3 A²s and the maximum I²t max is 164 A²s. The diameter of the fuse link is 53 mm and the length is 292 mm. The weight of a single piece is approximately 1.6 kg.
- Breaking capacity: high value of 63 kA ensures effective protection against the effects of short circuits
- Thermal trigger: additional protection against overheating
- Durable construction: ceramic tube and galvanically protected contacts guarantee long-term operation
- Wide application: ideal for switchgear with SF6 gas
- Reliability: confirmed by technical reports from KEMA Labs type tests
- Easy replacement: improved contact cap facilitates assembly and disassembly
