Medium Voltage VV Fuse Links – Reliable Installation Protection
VV fuse links are proven solutions for protecting electrical and power equipment at medium voltage (MV). They are designed to protect cables, transformers, motors, and capacitor banks from the effects of short circuits and overloads. The VVT-D3 variant, equipped with a thermal trigger, provides additional protection against uncontrolled temperature increases.
Construction and operating principle
VVT-D3 fuse links are characterized by the presence of a thermal trigger, which activates the striker with a force of 80N when the fuse body reaches a temperature of approximately 120°C. This solution is particularly recommended for use in SF6 gas switchgear, as the thermal trigger does not react to short-term overloads, but only to dangerous temperature increases. The solid construction with a high-strength ceramic tube and galvanically protected contacts ensure long-lasting and reliable operation. The fuse element is made of silver.
Parameters and application
The VVT-D3 12kV/6.3A fuse link has a breaking capacity of 63 kA. It is designed for operation in alternating current (AC) circuits with a frequency of 50/60 Hz. The rated minimum breaking current is 25A. The cold resistance is 435 mΩ, and the power loss is 21W. The minimum pre-arcing integral I²t min is 36 A²s, and the maximum breaking integral I²t max is 340 A²s. The fuse diameter is 53 mm, and the length is 292 mm. The weight of a single piece is approximately 1.6 kg.
It is worth remembering the technical reports from type tests conducted by KEMA Labs confirming the high quality and reliability of these fuse links. The improved contact cap facilitates the replacement of fuse links during maintenance or repair of the installation.
