Medium voltage fuse links – reliable installation protection
VV fuse links are a proven solution for protecting electrical and power equipment at medium voltage (MV). Designed to protect cables, transformers, motors and capacitor banks from the effects of short circuits and overloads. In particular, VVT-D3 fuse links, thanks to the use of a thermal trigger, also protect against uncontrolled temperature increases.
Construction and operating principle
VVT-D3 fuse links are equipped with a thermal trigger, which activates the striker with a force of 80N when the fuse body reaches a temperature of approximately 120°C – regardless of the cause of the temperature increase. This is an important solution in the case of SF6 gas switchgear, where traditional protection methods may be less effective. The striker signals the operation of the fuse link and enables the activation of the fuse-disconnecting mechanism. The construction of the fuse links is characterized by high reliability thanks to the use of a high-strength ceramic tube and contacts protected galvanically, made of electrolytic copper coated with nickel.
Key parameters and application
The VVT-D3 24kV/16A fuse link is characterized by a rated current of 16A and a rated voltage of 24kV (at a frequency of 50/60Hz). The rated breaking capacity is as high as 63kA, which ensures effective protection even in the event of serious short circuits. The cold resistance is 125 mΩ, and the power loss is 42W. The minimum pre-arcing integral I²t is 320 A²s, and the maximum breaking integral I²t is 5200 A²s. These values testify to the high dynamic and thermal parameters of the fuse link.
