Medium Voltage VV Fuses – Reliable Installation Protection

VV fuses are a proven protection element in medium voltage networks. Designed to protect electrical and power equipment MV (cables, transformers, motors, capacitor banks) against the effects of short circuits and overloads. In particular, the VVT-D3 model, thanks to the use of a thermal trigger, also protects against uncontrolled temperature increases.

Construction and principle of operation

VVT-D3 fuses are equipped with a thermal trigger, which activates a striker with a force of 80N when the fuse body reaches a temperature of approximately 120°C – regardless of the cause of the temperature increase. This solution is particularly recommended for use in switchgear with SF6 gas. The striker signals the operation of the fuse and activates the tripping mechanism of the fuse disconnectors. The fuse design is designed for reliability and long-term operation – it is characterized by high resistance to moisture thanks to the use of a reliable sealing system and a durable ceramic tube. Galvanically protected contacts, made of electrolytic copper coated with nickel (Ni), ensure optimal electrical connection.

Parameters and application

The VVT-D3 24kV/32A fuse is characterized by a rated current of 32A and a rated voltage of 24kV AC. Its breaking capacity is as high as 63kA, which guarantees effective protection even in the event of high short-circuit currents. This makes it suitable for use in various medium voltage installations where high reliability and a quick response to failures are required. Additionally, the cold resistance is 52 mΩ and the power loss is 79W. The minimum pre-arcing integral I²t min is 1400 A²s and the maximum I²t max is 15000 A²s. The housing diameter is 53 mm and the length is 442 mm with a weight of 2.3 kg.
