MS-12/N Sensory Module – Methane Detection in Boiler Rooms
The MS-12/N module is a replaceable unit equipped with a semiconductor methane sensor, designed for installation in DEX-12/N and DG-12/N system detectors. It does not operate independently; it is part of a larger gas detection system, and its function is to detect the presence of CH₄ and transmit a signal to the main device.
One of its key advantages is the ability to replace the module without dismantling the entire detector. In case of calibration, failure, or the need to change the gas type, it is sufficient to disconnect and replace this single component. There is no need to interrupt the installation's operation or call an external service. This reduces service costs and minimizes downtime.
The module contains a built-in processor that records operational history: the number of alarms, duration of alarm states, measurement range exceedances, and any errors. This data is available during calibration, allowing assessment of how intensively and under what conditions the sensor has operated. This enables informed decisions regarding the necessity of adjusting system settings or replacing the module with one better suited to current conditions.
Standard alarm thresholds are 10% and 30% of the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL). Two signaling levels allow flexible adaptation of the system's response to the specific characteristics of the facility—for example, the first threshold as a warning and the second as activation of ventilation or shutdown of the installation.
The module has no independent power supply or optical signaling; it operates only in conjunction with a detector that supplies it with voltage and performs output functions. Its construction ensures safe operation in explosive hazard zones. If the type of monitored gas changes in the future—for example, from methane to LPG—there is no need to replace the entire system. It is sufficient to replace the MS-12/N with an appropriate module (e.g., MS-15/N), while the detector remains unchanged.
