Control Module for Valves – a Central Element of Gas Installation Safety

This microprocessor control module MD-X.ZWA is designed to control MAG-3 shut-off valves in the Active Gas Installation Safety System (ASBIG) produced by GAZEX. It enables remote valve control in the event of a hazard detection and cooperates with other alarm systems and GAZEX modules. It is a key element ensuring safety in gas boiler rooms, public buildings, gas-heated halls, and warehouses.

Functionality and Application

The MD-X.ZWA module allows controlling from one to four MAG-3 valves, offering flexibility in system configuration. The length of the wired connection with the detection system can reach up to 400 meters, facilitating installation in extensive facilities. Compatibility and easy integration with existing infrastructure are ensured by the ability to cooperate with various MD series alarm modules and other systems with a 12V= output. The module is a replacement for MD-X.ZA/2 and MD-X.ZA24/2 models, simplifying the modernization of existing installations.

• Versatile application: ideal for gas boiler rooms (industrial and housing estate), public buildings, halls heated with gas radiant heaters, and warehouses and logistics centers.
• Flexible control: possibility of controlling from 1 to 4 MAG-3 valves (maximum 2 per output).
• Long range: wired connection with the detection system up to approx. 200-400 meters.
• Universal power supply: supports 12/24V DC voltage, increasing installation flexibility.
• Status monitoring: AWARIA (FAILURE) contact output signals module failure, valve disconnection, lack of closure confirmation (for valves with closure control), low battery level, or power supply problems.
• Closure control: two inputs for confirming the closed state of valves with limit switches increase the safety level.
• Functionality testing: manual valve testing with a button on the housing facilitates maintenance and diagnostics.
• Zoning: possibility of dividing into two input/output zones with galvanic isolation ensures independent operation of individual circuits.
• Alarm signaling: optical and acoustic alarm signaling with memory (manually cleared) informs about the occurrence of a hazard.
• Cooperation with other systems: possibility of cooperation with all MD series modules and external systems with a 5…30V= control output.

Construction and Additional Functions

The MD-X.ZWA module has a solid construction with dimensions of 190 x 165 x 96 mm, ensuring durability and reliable operation. Additionally, a version with an RS-485 port (MODBUS RTU protocol) – MDD-ZW type modules – is available, enabling integration with building automation systems and remote monitoring of the gas installation status. The built-in test button allows for quick verification of valve operation without the need to run a full alarm procedure. Remember to remove the factory-mounted resistors on the ZAW1 and ZAW2 terminals before connecting the wires to the valves!
