Elbow for piping installations in the Geberit Mapress system
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl elbow with a 45° angle and nominal diameter DN 40 allows for precise redirection of the pipeline route in sanitary, heating, and industrial installations. Thanks to the use of press connection technology, the need for welding or brazing is eliminated - it is sufficient to insert the pipe into the compression socket and perform the pressing with M-profile jaws. The product is an element of the 316 stainless steel (1.4401) piping system, which is highly regarded by both installers and system designers.
Material and connection execution
The elbow body is made of 1.4401 chrome-nickel-molybdenum steel in accordance with the DIN EN 10088 standard - a grade widely used in applications requiring corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The wall thickness at both sockets is 1.5 mm, which ensures connection stability at a working pressure of up to 16 bar at a temperature of 20°C. The total length of the connection is 51 mm, and the working part of the socket is 21 mm - these dimensions correspond to standard Geberit Mapress system pipes with an outer diameter of 42 mm. The connection surfaces remain in a raw state, without additional external anti-corrosion treatment - the internal resistance of 316 steel is sufficient for operation in typical media.
A black CIIR gasket, factory-installed in the compression socket, is included in the set. This gasket is resistant to many industrial and sanitary media, which expands the range of possible applications for the elbow.
Pressing technique and leak indicator
The Geberit Mapress system is based on press connections - the pipe is pressed into the socket equipped with a CIIR gasket, and then both elements are permanently clamped with M-profile press jaws. Once pressing is completed, a leak-proof and durable mechanical connection is formed.
An important feature of the system is the press indicator - before the connection is made, the seal is visible as a black sealing ring between the pipe and the socket. Only a correctly performed press permanently compresses the gasket and guarantees the tightness of the installation.
Scope of applications
The DN 40/42 mm elbow is suitable for various installations:
- Potable water - cold and hot domestic water meeting sanitary requirements.
- Heating and cooling agents - water for central heating and cooling systems, both without and with the addition of anti-freeze agents.
- District heating - operating temperature up to 120°C.
- Saturated steam - up to 120°C.
- Industrial and process waters, treated waters, rainwater with pH >6.0, and grey and black wastewater with pH >6.0.
- Firefighting water - sprinkler systems and wet fire extinguishing networks.
- Compressed air - oil class 0-3 purity.
- Inert gases (e.g., nitrogen), industrial gases (e.g., acetylene), shielding gases for welding.
- Vacuum.
- Chemicals and technical liquids.
The system finds application in construction technology, industry, and shipbuilding.
Operating parameters and usage conditions
The maximum working pressure at room temperature is 16 bar. This value decreases as the medium temperature increases - when designing steam or district heating installations, the data from the allowable pressure tables for stainless steel must be taken into account.
The elbow does not have an air vent or a drain valve - it is a piping route element used solely to change the pipeline direction by an angle of 45°. The connection surfaces remain raw; the manufacturer does not recommend additional anti-corrosion treatment at the socket-pipe interface for standard sanitary and heating applications.
For correct installation, press jaws with an M-profile compatible with the Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system and an appropriate cordless or electric press are required.
