Press system for sanitary and industrial installations
The Geberit Mapress elbow made of 316 stainless steel (grade 1.4401 according to DIN EN 10088) is a connecting element designed to create angular changes in direction of pipelines in installations made using press technology. Thanks to the use of double-sided press sockets with M-profile jaws, it enables fast and leak-proof installation - without the need for welding, threading, or brazing. The bend angle is 90°, allowing pipes to be routed at right angles in vertical and horizontal sections of the installation.
Each press socket has a length of 53 mm and a working length of 33 mm, with an outer diameter of both ends being 18 mm (corresponding to DN 15). The connection wall thickness is 1 mm, which ensures adequate connection stiffness while maintaining compact dimensions. The weight of the entire elbow is only 0,075 kg, facilitating transport and handling during installation in hard-to-reach places.
Protection against installation errors
The Geberit Mapress system is equipped with a range of solutions to protect against leaks occurring during the installation stage. The Pressindikator (press indicator) in the form of a characteristic groove around the socket allows for a visual assessment of the correctness of the connection even before commissioning the installation. However, the key function is the unverpresst undicht mechanism - the elbow only becomes leak-proof after correct pressing. Until the joint is processed with the press jaw, medium flow is impossible through the unpressed connection.
Included is a transparent protective cap placed on the press socket during transport and storage - it protects the interior of the socket from contamination before installation. The seal consists of a black ring made of CIIR (chlorobutadiene-isoprene) butyl rubber, which maintains flexibility across a wide range of operating temperatures and pressures.
Scope of application and medium compatibility
The elbow is designed for operation at a maximum pressure of 16 bar at a temperature of 20°C. The manufacturer permits its use in installations of:
- potable water - cold and hot,
- heating water - both without anti-freeze additives and with glycol,
- district heating water - up to a temperature of 120°C,
- saturated steam - up to 120°C,
- process and treated waters, including rainwater with pH > 6.0 and grey and black wastewater with pH > 6.0,
- firefighting water - wet and sprinkler systems (wet sprinklers),
- compressed air - oil cleanliness class 0-3,
- inert gases (e.g., nitrogen), industrial gases (e.g., acetylene, welding shielding gases),
- technical liquids and chemicals.
These operating conditions make the elbow suitable for both standard hydraulics in residential and public buildings, as well as in industrial and marine installations - i.e., anywhere high material resistance to various media is required.
Material and structural durability
316 grade (CrNiMo) stainless steel containing molybdenum is characterized by increased corrosion resistance compared to 304 type steel - which is particularly important when in contact with seawater, salt solutions, or certain chemicals. This property translates into long-term connection tightness even in chemically aggressive environments.
Both the connection surfaces and the entire geometry of the elbow remain in a raw state (without additional protective coating), which is a standard solution for Mapress systems - stainless steel itself acts as an anti-corrosion barrier. The high tensile strength of the material ensures connection stability under the influence of mechanical stresses occurring during pipeline operation.
Installation requires the use of press jaws with an M-profile - compatible with most pressing tools available on the market. After pressing, the connection forms a durable, uniform pipe-fitting-elbow system with a homogeneous metallic structure.
