Precise direction change in stainless steel installations
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl 90° elbow with nominal diameter DN40 is a fitting of a precision press-connection system designed to create reliable bends in piping systems. Made of chrome-nickel-molybdenum steel (grade 1.4401 according to DIN EN 10088, equivalent to AISI 316), it ensures high corrosion resistance even in demanding operating conditions - making it suitable not only for sanitary and heating installations but also for industrial and marine construction.
Both ends of the elbow are press fittings with an outer diameter of 42 mm and a length of 80 mm, allowing for secure pipe seating in the fitting before making the connection. The M profile (contour for press jaws) is standard for the Mapress Edelstahl system, and the fitting wall thickness of 1.5 mm maintains the continuity of the pipe wall thickness.
Mapress press technology and safety mechanism
The Geberit Mapress system is based on the cold press method - the pipe is pressed into a fitting equipped with a CIIR (chlorobutyl rubber) seal, and then both elements are permanently clamped by jaws pressing onto the M contour. This technique eliminates the need for soldering or welding, significantly reducing installation time and fire risk - which is particularly important when working in enclosed rooms or near flammable materials.
A key feature of the system is the unverpresst undicht function - the elbow remains leaky until the pressing is correctly performed. A built-in pressindikator signals a missing connection during a pressure test of the installation. If any element has not been pressed, the medium will pass through the gap - the installer immediately sees where the problem lies before costly leaks or flooding occur.
The maximum working pressure at a temperature of 20°C is 16 bar, allowing the elbow to be used in both typical domestic installations (drinking water, central heating) and larger industrial systems or district heating networks.
Scope of application and compatibility
The double-ended elbow with a bend angle of 90° is ideal anywhere a pipeline route needs to change direction at a right angle - typical situations include:
- Water lines - both cold and hot drinking water; the CIIR seal is suitable for contact with potable water.
- Heating installations - stoves and boilers.
- Industrial networks - compressed air and process installations.
- Fire protection systems - sprinkler and extinguishing systems.
- Marine applications - the corrosion resistance of CrNiMo stainless steel allows for operation in marine environments.
The elbow fits all Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system pipes with a diameter of 42 mm, and its symmetrical design allows for the connection of two pipe sections at a right angle.
Material and connection durability
Chrome-nickel-molybdenum CrNiMo steel is characterized by increased resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion due to its molybdenum content - therefore, the elbow maintains its tightness even when in contact with high-salinity waters or aggressive industrial media.
After pressing with M-contour jaws, a durable, metallic connection is formed that requires no maintenance or tightening - throughout the entire service life of the installation, the user is assured of leak-tightness without the need for additional servicing.
