Press connection system for sanitary and industrial installations
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl 90° elbow with nominal diameter DN50 (pipe outer diameter 54 mm) is a component of a stainless steel piping system made of grade 1.4401 (CrNiMo), designed for changing the direction of pipe routes in pressure installations. Thanks to pressfitting technology, it enables fast and leak-proof installation without the need for welding or brazing - simply compress the fitting using M-profile jaws.
Construction and materials
The elbow body is made of 316 stainless steel (1.4401), which provides high corrosion resistance in drinking water installations and industrial environments. The wall thickness of both connections is 1.5 mm, translating to high mechanical strength and resistance to pressure loads up to 16 bar at a temperature of 20°C. The total length of the connection is 100 mm, and the working length is 65 mm - these dimensions allow for secure seating of the pipe in the press fitting and correct execution of the press connection.
The elbow is equipped with a black CIIR (chlorobutadiene rubber) seal, factory-mounted in the press fitting groove. The product features a press indicator - a characteristic element of the Mapress system that informs about the correct execution of the connection; an unformed fitting remains unsealed until it is compressed with the jaws.
Applications and media compatibility
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system is one of the most versatile piping solutions on the market - the elbow with catalog number 31108 is suitable for a wide spectrum of applications:
- Drinking water - cold and hot domestic water installations
- Heating and cooling media - heating and cooling water, including those with anti-freeze agents
- District heating - up to a temperature of ≤120°C
- Saturated steam - up to 120°C
- Compressed air - oil cleanliness class 0-3
- Fire and sprinkler water - fire extinguishing installations (wet)
- Domestic and industrial sewage - at pH >6.0
- Rainwater - at pH >6.0
- Inert gases - e.g., nitrogen; industrial gases such as acetylene or welding shielding gases
- Chemicals and technical fluids
- Vacuum
Applications include residential and commercial construction, as well as industrial facilities and shipbuilding.
Installation and advantages of the Mapress system
Geberit Mapress pressfitting technology eliminates threaded and brazed joints, significantly shortening installation time and reducing the risk of installation errors. The process consists of inserting the pipe into the fitting up to the stop, positioning the jaws perpendicular to the pipe axis, and performing the press connection - without open flame, sparking, or heating.
To make the connection, crimping jaws with an M profile are required, available from Geberit and many tool manufacturers. A transparent protective cap placed on the fitting during transport and storage protects the seal from contamination before installation.
High tensile strength allows the elbow to be used in installations exposed to mechanical stress, and the single-piece construction eliminates additional sealing elements installed on-site.
