Stainless steel press elbow for sanitary and heating installations
Geberit Mapress unsealed elbow (with press ends) with a 90° angle, made of CrNiMo stainless steel grade 1.4401 (DIN EN 10088), is a component of this Swiss brand's press-fit pipe and fitting system. The outer diameter of 18 mm and nominal size DN 15 correspond to the most popular sizes used in domestic and industrial water installations.
The wall thickness at both ends is 1 mm, ensuring adequate stiffness while maintaining a low mass for the entire component. The working length of the first connection is 133 mm, while the second is 61 mm. The installation dimensions for this elbow are: H = 70 mm, H1 = 120 mm, K = 17 mm, K1 = 67 mm.
Material and corrosion resistance
316 stainless steel (CrNiMo) is characterized by enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard stainless steel grades - the molybdenum contained in the composition improves durability in chloride and acidic environments. The component belongs to flammability class A1 according to DIN 4102-1, which means it is completely non-combustible - an important feature for gas installations and fire safety design.
The use of high tensile strength steel translates into the durability of connections even under mechanical loads occurring during the operation of the installation.
Applications and system compatibility
The elbow is intended for three main application groups:
- sanitary installations (cold and hot water),
- heating installations,
- gas installations - both natural gas (NG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The Geberit Mapress system requires pressing with pressing jaws featuring an M profile - both ends of this elbow are marked with the same profile. The absence of seals in the set means that the component is supplied as an unsealed elbow (without a seal), allowing the installer to independently select the appropriate CIIR (black) sealing ring for the type of medium - separately for water, gas, or industrial installations.
The maximum working pressure at a temperature of 20°C is 16 bar, which covers typical requirements for domestic and medium-sized commercial installations.
Characteristics of press connections
Geberit Mapress press fittings have a built-in pressing indicator - during assembly, an unpressed connection remains leaky, signaling the need to press it with the jaw. This feature eliminates the risk of error and allows for verification of correct execution even before the installation is commissioned.
The surface of both ends remains in a raw state - without additional processing or protective coatings. This form of preparation ensures optimal geometry for the press connection and facilitates any inspection before installation.
The absence of a plug, drain valve, or air vent means that the elbow serves solely the function of changing the direction of the pipeline route by a right angle - without additional structural conveniences.
