Stainless steel press elbow for sanitary installations
This component belongs to the Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system - one of the most popular press-fitting series on the European market. The 90° elbow is used to change the direction of the pipeline route in water, heating, and industrial installations. The bare version (without a sealing insert) allows for the independent selection of the sealing ring - e.g., EPDM for drinking water or FKM for chemically aggressive media.
The nominal diameter DN 50 with an external pipe dimension of 54 mm is a standard size used in medium-sized construction installations - sufficient for water risers or central heating manifolds.
Construction and materials
The body is made of 316 grade stainless steel (1.4401) - an austenitic alloy with the addition of molybdenum, which increases resistance to pitting corrosion compared to standard 304 steel. Thanks to this, the element performs well not only in typical water installations but also where the medium has increased salinity or temperature.
The wall thickness at both ends is 1.5 mm - typical for Mapress systems in this diameter range. Both connections are in the form of press ends (press) with an M jaw profile, which means compatibility with widely available Geberit pressing tools and most standard jaws on the market.
The working length of the lower connection is 205 mm, and the upper one is 111 mm. This asymmetry results from the shape of the fitting and is important when designing the pipeline route, especially when calculating dimensions for thermal compensation.
The surface remains in a raw state - without additional painted or galvanized coating. For 316 steel, this is sufficient protection under standard operating conditions.
Operating parameters and purpose
The maximum working pressure at 20°C is 16 bar - a sufficient margin for most domestic and commercial installations (the design standard is usually PN10 or PN16). The manufacturer also declares high tensile strength, which is important for connections made using the press method - the fittings themselves take the axial loads, so the quality of the seal is important in the event of installation stresses.
The element is marked as a system pipe, confirming its belonging to the certified GEBERIT system - maintaining the full manufacturer's warranty for the entire connection.
The absence of factory-installed seals provides flexibility in selecting the sealing material based on the medium:
| Medium | Seal material |
|---|---|
| Drinking water | EPDM |
| Fuel oil | FKM |
| Compressed air | FKM |
| Glycol solutions | EPDM |
Application and compatibility
The elbow will find application wherever the installation requires a sharp turn in the pipeline route - at water risers, fixture connections, or passages through ceilings or partition walls. The bare version gives the installer the freedom to match the seal to the specifics of the medium, which is crucial, for example, in boiler rooms or industrial facilities.
The Mapress Edelstahl system is widely used by professional plumbers in new investments and modernizations - mainly due to the speed of installation (pressing instead of threading or welding) and the repeatability of connections. One elbow can replace a traditional set: threaded elbow + coupling + reduction - with fewer potential leak points.
To correctly perform the connection, you need:
- M profile press jaws (or an adapter),
- a pressing tool matching the jaws,
- a sealing ring selected for the medium,
- GEBERIT Mapress Edelstahl System pipes of the same nominal diameter DN50/54mm
