Press-fitting system for demanding installations
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl coupling with a diameter of 18 mm (DN 15) is an element of a professional series of press-fit fittings made of CrNiMo stainless steel according to the DIN EN 10088 standard. The manufacturer designates this grade as 1.4401 (equivalent to AISI-SAE 316). The fitting has a straight form and is equipped with two clamping sleeves of the same dimension - both accommodate system pipes with an outer diameter of 18 mm and a wall thickness of 1 mm. The total length is 48 mm, and the Z dimension (distance from the face to the axis of the clamp) is 8 mm. Each connection has a working length of 4 mm and a total length of 24 mm, ensuring stable seating of the pipe in the coupling before the actual clamping.
Material and sealing
The body is made of high-alloy CrNiMo stainless steel (1.4401), which contains a molybdenum additive - this element increases resistance to pitting corrosion in chlorinated and marine environments. Thanks to this, the fitting is suitable not only for typical domestic installations but also for industry and marine applications. The surface of both ends remains in a raw state - without an additional protective coating at the contact point with the pipe.
The seal is made of CIIR (chlorobutadiene rubber) in black. This material withstands contact with potable water, heating water, and many technical media listed in Geberit's application tables. It is worth noting the characteristic of the Mapress system: the connection remains unsealed before pressing. This is a deliberate solution - it eliminates the risk of installer error and forces the correct execution of the clamp using M profile jaws. Jaws compatible with this profile are widely available on the market.
The coupling is supplied with a transparent protective cap covering the interior - it protects the seal and the inside of the fitting from contamination during transport and storage on the construction site.
Scope of applications and working pressure
The fitting belongs to a product line intended for both liquids and gases. At a temperature of 20°C, the permissible working pressure is 16 bar. In practice, the operating temperature range includes:
- cold and hot water (0-100°C) - sanitary installations,
- heating water (0-100°C) and district heating (up to 120°C, and under special conditions even up to 140°C),
- cooling water without antifreeze (0-100°C) and with antifreeze (-30 - +120°C),
- saturated steam (up to 120°C at max 2 bar, up to 155°C at max 5 bar),
- compressed air of oil cleanliness class 0-3 or oil-free (0-X) - at a pressure up to 25 bar for diameters up to 54 mm,
- inert gases (e.g., nitrogen), ground and liquid gases (PN5, temp. range -20 - +70°C),
- rainwater and grey/black wastewater at pH > 6.0,
- wet firefighting water and sprinkler water,
- solar heat carriers (-25 - +220°C, at max working pressure).
For media such as mineral oils or chemicals, the manufacturer requires individual approval from Geberit - these are not standard operating conditions for this fitting.
Characteristic features of the Mapress Edelstahl system
The Geberit Mapress system is based on several important design solutions:
- Press indicator - a special groove or indentation around the circumference of the coupling allows for controlling the correctness of the performed connection even without specialized measuring tools.
- Unsealed before pressing - eliminates the risk of leaks during the leak testing stage before the final installation of all fittings.
- Transparent protective end cap - enables quick verification of the seal's presence without disassembly.
- High tensile strength confirmed for CrNiMo steel - important for installations subjected to mechanical stress.
