System stainless steel pipes for sanitary and heating installations

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl CrMoTi pipe with an outer diameter of 15 mm and a length of 6 m is made of stainless steel grade 1.4521 (CrMoTi), compliant with the DIN EN 10088 standard. This material contains a titanium additive, which increases resistance to intergranular corrosion - an important feature during welding and heat treatment. The pipe wall has a thickness of 1 mm, which with an outer diameter of 15 mm results in an internal bore of 13 mm (DN 12). The end of the pipe is smooth and factory-protected with a green protective cap.

CrMoTi steel is characterized by a nickel-free composition, confirmed by the DVGW certificate (GW 541). The absence of nickel means there is no risk of contact allergy - the pipe is suitable for applications where material neutrality towards the medium and the environment is required. The internal surface with a roughness of 1,5 µm minimizes flow resistance and the accumulation of contaminants.

Thermal and mechanical properties

The coefficient of thermal expansion for 1.4521 steel is 0,0104 mm/(m·K) - lower than for standard austenitic stainless steels (e.g., 1.4301), which translates to less deformation during temperature changes. Thermal conductivity at a level of 23 W/(m·K) allows for more efficient heat dissipation in heating and solar installations compared to CrNiMo steel (15 W/(m·K)). A heat capacity of 430 J/(kg·K) ensures the temperature stability of the entire system.

The pipe is supplied as a six-meter rod - a format that facilitates transport and storage on the construction site and allows the installer to cut sections exactly to size.

Applications in liquid and gas installations

CrMoTi 1.4521 steel is approved for operation at a pressure of 16 bar at temperatures from 0 to 100°C for cold and hot water as well as heating water. District heating water up to 120°C also falls within this pressure class; at temperatures up to 140°C, the maximum pressure remains unchanged.

For solar media, the temperature range extends from -25°C to +220°C, although the period of operation at extreme temperatures is limited - the manufacturer specifies it as max. 500 hours over the entire service life within the range up to +220°C.

Cooling water with antifreeze can operate in the range from -30°C to +120°C. Sprinkler systems handle a pressure of 16 bar for diameters from d22 to d76,1 mm; for larger dimensions, a limit of 10 bar applies.

Regarding gases - the pipe is suitable for compressed air with oil cleanliness classes from 0-3 to X according to ISO 8573-1 - the working pressure depends on the diameter and ranges from 12 to even 25 bar. It is also suitable for vacuum installations (absolute pressure ≥0,2 bar / ≥20 kPa) and for conveying inert gases such as nitrogen.

Natural and liquid gases operate in the pressure class PN5 / GT5 within a temperature range from -20°C to +70°C. Biogas requires separate approval by GEBERIT SP.Z O.O.

Mapress System and compatibility

The pipe is designed for press connections - the smooth end allows for insertion into a Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system fitting before pressing. Connection tightness is achieved only after pressing; the factory-installed press indicator informs about the correctness of the execution.

The complete system is compatible with black CIIR or black EPDM seals - standard for water and heating installations; for gases, yellow HNBR or blue/green FKM/FPM seals are used.

The product is free from substances that interfere with the painting process (LABS-free), which is important when routing pipes through rooms requiring protective coatings on structural elements.
