CrMoTi stainless steel for demanding installations
The Geberit Mapress pipe made of 1.4521 (CrMoTi) grade stainless steel is a component designed for the construction of professional piping systems in sanitary, heating, and industrial installations. An outer diameter of 18 mm with a wall thickness of 1 mm and an inner diameter of 16 mm corresponds to the nominal size DN 15 - the most popular dimension in vertical and horizontal distribution for residential and public utility buildings.
The titanium-stabilized CrMoTi steel material is characterized by increased resistance to intergranular corrosion, allowing the pipe to be used both in standard operating conditions and in contact with more aggressive media - rainwater with pH >6.0 or grey and black wastewater. This steel also performs well as a solar conduit - heat carriers can flow through it at temperatures from -25°C to +220°C (at a maximum pressure of 16 bar). For comparison - standard 300 series stainless steels have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion (0.0165 mm/(m·K)), whereas here it is only 0.0104 mm/(m·K) - resulting in less thermal stress under varying operating temperatures.
Versatility of applications
The working range of this model includes:
- cold and hot water - potable and domestic installations,
- heating water - central heating,
- cooling water - both without anti-freeze additives (0-100°C) and with glycol or other agents (-30-+120°C),
- district heating water - up to 140°C at 16 bar pressure,
- compressed air - oil cleanliness classes 0-3 or any other,
- inert gases - nitrogen,
- natural gas and liquefied gases - GT5 installations,
- chemicals and technical fluids - subject to individual approval by Geberit.
The pipe is supplied as a six-meter bar with smooth ends and a green protective cap, which also serves as the steel grade marking (green = CrMoTi / 444 series). The surface remains in a raw state - there is no additional coating or factory insulation.
Parameters important for the designer and installer
A surface roughness coefficient at the level of 1.5 µm ensures low hydraulic resistance throughout the entire service life - the inner wall does not generate the same frictional resistance as galvanized or cast iron pipes. Thermal conductivity of 23 W/(m·K) means faster system response to changes in the carrier temperature - particularly important in solar and weather-controlled systems.
The minimum bending radius for this dimension is 63 mm, allowing for routing even in tight spaces without additional elbow fittings.
The pipe is LABS-free - free from substances that interfere with the painting process, so it can be safely used where painting or coating of architecturally visible installation elements is planned.
Geberit Mapress connection system
The pipe is designed for use within the Geberit Mapress system - one of the most popular press-fitting solutions on the European market. Joining is performed via the pressing method of couplings (press) with special black CIIR or blue FKM seals (for aggressive media). The connection only becomes leak-proof after pressing - previously, the elements are held mechanically but do not guarantee tightness. The system enables installation without welding or soldering, which significantly shortens work time and eliminates the risk of fire on the construction site.
For a complete system, short nipples (for installation lengths between two couplings), straight couplings, as well as elbows, tees, and reductions are offered - all dedicated to specific Mapress pipe dimensions.
