Stainless steel pipe GEBERIT Mapress Edelstahl CrMoTi 1.4521: d=42mm, L=6m bar /6m/ 39047
Steel pipe system for demanding installations
Geberit Mapress stainless steel pipe made of CrMoTi stainless steel grade 1.4521 (DIN EN 10088 standard) represents the highest class of piping installation solutions. Grade 444 (1.4521) is distinguished by increased resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments - a key feature in industrial and heating installations.
An outer diameter of 42 mm with a wall thickness of 1,5 mm provides an internal diameter of 39 mm, allowing for efficient media transport while maintaining the compact dimensions of the entire line.
The yield strength of 1.4521 steel is 280-400 MPa, ensuring high mechanical strength while remaining easy to process - the pipe is not seamless (manufactured as welded), but meets rigorous tightness standards according to eddy current testing.
Supplied in 6-meter bars with smooth ends and green protective caps - the latter indicate belonging to the CrMoTi pipe family, designed for a wider range of applications than CrNiMo or CrNi variants.
Thermal and operating parameters
CrMoTi steel exhibits significantly lower thermal expansion than standard stainless steel alloys - 0,0104 mm/(m·K) compared to the typical 0,016-0,0165 mm/(m·K) for austenitic grades. Lower expansion under the influence of temperature translates to less stress in connections and reduced compensation requirements for the entire section.
Thermal conductivity at a level of 23 W/(m·K) is clearly higher than for CrNiMo or CrNi steel (15 W/(m·K)), making this material a preferred choice in solar and heating installations - where efficient heat transfer through the pipe wall is of practical importance.
An internal surface roughness of 1,5 µm minimizes flow resistance and reduces the risk of biological contaminant buildup - particularly important in water circuits.
The operating pressure range reaches 16 bar / 1600 kPa for most water and heating applications (cold and hot water up to 100°C, heating water up to 140°C). For solar media, operation from -25°C to +220°C is permissible, although the service period at extreme temperatures (180-220°C) is limited to a few hundred hours per year in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.
Industrial and specialized applications
Geberit Mapress CrMoTi stainless steel pipe is suitable for transmission installations for chemicals and technical fluids - after obtaining individual approval from Geberit. This is a significant restriction compared to competing system steel grades; the decision to use it requires individual verification of compatibility with the planned medium.
In the gas segment, it serves compressed air (oil cleanliness class from 0 to X) at pressures of 25/16/12 bar depending on the pipe diameter - the highest pressure applies to pipes d12-54mm. The same operating pressure table applies to inert gases such as nitrogen.
Vacuum up to an absolute ≥0,2 bar / 20 kPa does not pose a structural problem for Mapress welded system pipes - tightness confirmed by eddy current testing guarantees vacuum load capacity.
Natural gas and liquefied gases operate in class PN5 / GT5 within a temperature range of from -20°C to +70°C. Biogas requires separate approval from Geberit - a typical procedure for biomass installations and wastewater treatment plants.
Connections and installation
The pipe is designed for the Geberit Mapress press connection system - the "pipe end" characteristic means a smooth end without sockets or factory grooves for the seal; the latter are mounted in the system fittings.
The press connection eliminates the need for welding or brazing on the construction site - only a press-in sealing element and a pressing tool with the appropriate jaw are required. The absence of on-site thermal treatment means shorter installation time and reduced fire risk in large facilities.
The pipe is free from substances that interfere with the painting process - a detail important during the prefabrication of installation elements intended for surface finishing.
Product standard EN 10312:2002 + A1:2005 confirms the classification as welded stainless steel system pipes for the transport of media other than potable water; when used in drinking water circuits, local national regulations regarding the permissibility of medium contact with steel must be respected.
