Reducing tee for press fittings
This fitting is used to create branches in pipe lines - it allows connecting one large pipe with one smaller and one equal pipe. In this model, both main connections have a diameter of 35 mm, and the side branch is 18 mm. The branching angle is 90°, allowing for typical vertical or horizontal installation routing with a side branch.
Construction and materials
The tee is made of 316 (1.4401) stainless steel - an austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel, resistant to corrosion from drinking water and many technical environments. The wall thickness on the main connections is 1.5 mm, while on the smaller branch it is 1 mm - the difference results from lower pressure requirements for the smaller diameter.
Sealing is provided by a ring made of CIIR (chlorobutadiene rubber), factory-installed in each connection. The surfaces are in a raw state - without additional protective coating, which is standard for press systems for jaws.
All three connections are press sleeves with an M jaw profile. This means compatibility with widely used Geberit Mapress pressing tools.
Application and pressure operation
The fitting is dedicated to two main applications:
- Drinking water installations - 316 steel performs well in contact with utility water,
- Heating installations - the connection layout and material withstand loads characteristic of central heating.
The maximum working pressure at a temperature of 20°C is 16 bar. The product has increased tensile strength - an important feature when using the press fitting method, where the crimping force is transferred to the connection.
The working lengths of the connections are in the range of 24-29 mm, ensuring stable pipe seating in the coupling before crimping. Total connection lengths vary from 49 to 50 mm.
Installation and system compatibility
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system is based on the press principle - a pipe inserted into a coupling with a seal is crimped with M profile jaws using an electric or cordless tool. This technology eliminates the need for threading, welding, or brazing. A single rotation of the jaws around the axis of the coupling is sufficient to achieve a leak-proof connection.
Reducing tees of this type are most commonly installed at manifolds, connections for devices with a smaller diameter, or where a change in flow in one of the directions is required. Catalog number 31213 corresponds to dimensions of 35 × 18 × 35 mm, which means the smaller branch is positioned between the two main pipes - it is neither a symmetrical nor an axially offset tee.
