Precision installation elbow for pressure systems
The Mapress Edelstahl elbow with a 90° angle and an outer diameter of 22 mm (DN20) is a press-fit component designed to create corner changes in direction for pipelines made using Geberit Mapress technology. Thanks to the combination of a press sleeve on one side and a spigot end on the other, it enables flexible connection of pipe sections with different mounting methods—both for expanding existing routes and constructing new parts of the installation.
Construction and material
The elbow body is made of stainless steel grade CrNiMo 1.4401 (AISI 316), ensuring high corrosion resistance in water and cooling environments. The wall thickness at both ends is 1.2 mm, and the nominal connection diameter is DN20. The working length of the connection with the press sleeve is 40 mm, while the spigot end allows for a pipe insertion depth of 70 mm. These dimensions facilitate precise fitting in tight installation spaces—the elbow height is approx. 58 mm, and the Z dimension (axial offset) is approx. 26 mm.
The maximum working pressure at 20°C reaches 16 bar, allowing for use in both potable water and central heating installations. The seal made of CIIR (chloroprene rubber) is factory-installed and ensures connection tightness even before pressing—eliminating the risk of leakage during the initial filling of the installation.
Mapress press system
Geberit Mapress technology is based on pressing the sleeves using automatic or manual presses with M profile jaws. The elbow is equipped with a transparent protective cap shielding the press sleeve from contamination during transport and storage—it simply needs to be removed immediately before installation. A built-in press-check indicator signals an insufficiently tightened connection, giving the installer certainty that no part of the installation has been missed.
On the spigot end side, the elbow is factory-capped, protecting the interior from dust and moisture until the pipe is inserted. The surface of both connections remains in a raw state—without an additional protective coating—which is the standard solution for this type of steel fittings intended for subsequent pressing.
Applications and compatibility
The elbow is effective in three main areas:
- Building services - water and heating risers in residential and public utility buildings,
- Industry - technological installations requiring the chemical resistance of 316 steel,
- Shipbuilding - where stainless steel performs better than brass or plastic in aggressive media and variable operating conditions.
To correctly perform the connection, a press tool and M profile jaws dedicated to Geberit Mapress Edelstahl pipes with a diameter of 22 mm are required. The product weighs only 0.099 kg, so it does not excessively load the structure even with a large number of bend points on a single route.
Installation, commissioning, and inspections should be carried out by authorized installation companies in accordance with applicable regulations and the manufacturer's instructions.
