316 stainless steel in sanitary and industrial installations
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl 90° elbow is a "bend" type component designed for CrNiMo 1.4401 (DIN EN 10088) stainless steel piping systems, commonly referred to as AISI 316 acid-resistant steel. The outer diameter of 28 mm corresponds to the nominal size DN 25, making it compatible with a wide range of pipes and fittings of the same size.
One of the key design features is the hybrid connection system - one arm is equipped with a slip-on end (Einschubende/Schiebeende) with a working length of 79 mm, while the other features a press socket (Pressmuffe) with contour code M. This solution allows for flexible selection of the installation method depending on site conditions - one side can be slipped onto a previously installed element, while the other requires pressing with M-profile crimping jaws.
Material and sealing
CrNiMo 1.4401 steel is distinguished by enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard AISI 304 stainless steel - the molybdenum (Mo) additive significantly improves resistance to chlorides and aggressive media. The surface of both connections remains untreated (unbehandelt), which is the standard for Mapress systems - there are no additional coatings or factory-applied anti-corrosion protections, as the acid-resistant steel core itself ensures durability.
The seal made of CIIR (chlorobutadiene rubber) in black guarantees a leak-proof connection after pressing. Until correctly installed, the elbow remains leaky (unverpresst undicht) - this is a deliberate system design that ensures the connection is performed correctly. The press indicator signals to the installer that the operation has been carried out correctly.
The press socket is additionally equipped with a transparent protective cap, which protects the seal groove from contamination during transport and storage.
Scope of application
The elbow is suitable for both sanitary installations (hot and cold potable water) and heating systems - it can handle mains water up to 120°C, saturated steam up to 120°C, and potable water under pressure up to 16 bar at a temperature of 20°C.
In addition to standard central heating and water installations, the system covers a range of specialized applications:
- Potable water - both domestic and industrial installations
- Cryogenics - water cooling systems with and without anti-freeze additives
- District heating - district heating networks up to a limit temperature of 120°C
- Process and technological - treated water, domestic wastewater (grey and black) with pH >6.0, and fire water
- Sprinkler - wet sprinkler systems
- Gas industry - inert gases (nitrogen), welding shielding gases, and compressed air of oil cleanliness class 0-3
- Chemicals and technical media - selected chemical and process substances
The system is dedicated to haustechnik (building services), industry, and shipbuilding, where corrosion resistance requirements are particularly high due to the presence of salt water.
Geometric and installation parameters
The overall dimensions of the elbow are approximately 57 mm in length and 65 mm in height. The Z parameter (axial distance) is 34 mm, which must be taken into account when designing the pipeline route. For precise fitting, the length of the slip-on end is 63 mm, and the press socket is 57 mm.
The wall thickness at both connections is a standard 1.2 mm for MAPRESS Edelstahl pipes of this size.
Installation requires M-profile pressing jaws - universal for the entire Geberit Mapress system. The connection does not require welding or soldering, which eliminates the risk of fire on the construction site and significantly shortens installation time. High tensile strength (zugfest) means that after correct pressing, the connection carries axial loads without the risk of disconnection.
The product is supplied factory-capped - the openings protect the internal system from contamination during transport and storage on the construction site.
