Installation system for demanding conditions
The Geberit Mapress Stainless Steel 90° elbow with insertion end is a piping system component designed to create changes in the installation route in systems made using the press-fitting technique. The outer diameter of 42 mm and nominal size DN 40 correspond to the most commonly used sizes in domestic and industrial installations.
The product is made of CrNiMo 1.4401 stainless steel (according to DIN EN 10088), commonly known as 316 stainless steel. It contains molybdenum, which increases resistance to pitting corrosion - crucial especially in drinking water or wastewater installations. The wall thickness of both connections is 1,5 mm, providing adequate stiffness and mechanical strength at a working pressure of up to 16 bar at a temperature of 20°C.
The Mapress system is based on a push-on connection with a pressable coupling - the jaw profile code is M. One side of the elbow is an insertion end (working length 88 mm), the other is a compression coupling with press sleeve (working length 50 mm). The coupling contains a black CIIR rubber seal, resistant to temperatures up to +120°C and a wide range of media.
Application and medium compatibility
The elbow is suitable for a very wide spectrum of applications - from simple domestic installations to demanding industrial and marine systems:
- Drinking water - cold and hot,
- Heating - heating water and networks ≤120°C,
- Saturated steam - up to +120°C,
- Chilled water - both without and with anti-freeze additives,
- Process and treated water,
- Rainwater as well as grey and black wastewater - at pH >6,0,
- Fire protection systems - sprinklers and extinguishing installations (wet),
- Compressed air - oil cleanliness class 0-3,
- Inert gases - e.g., nitrogen,
- Industrial gases - acetylene, shielding gases for welding,
- Chemicals and technical fluids.
As a result, a single elbow can serve different functions during the construction or modernization stage of a facility - provided that the pressure and temperature parameters fall within the permissible ranges.
Connection characteristics and factory markings
The press-fitting technique eliminates the need for welding or soldering - the connection is made using manual or cordless press tools with appropriate M-profile jaws. The elbow is equipped with a press indicator visible through a transparent protective sleeve covering the coupling before installation.
An important feature of the Mapress system: until the connection is pressed, it remains leaky (unverpresst undicht) - which means that any installer error is immediately detected during a pressure test before the installation is commissioned. There is no risk of a seemingly tight connection that leaks after years of operation.
The product is factory-sealed with a transparent plastic protective cap - protecting the seal from contamination during transport and storage on the construction site.
Geometric parameters
The overall dimensions of the elbow are: total length L = 80 mm, height H = 88 mm, axial dimension Z = 50 mm. The compact geometry facilitates piping in tight spaces between walls or inside installation grooves. For comparison - a single-outlet fitting of the same size is also available in 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60° angle versions, allowing for precise route selection without excessive pipe bending.
The gross weight of a commercial unit is approximately 0,15 kg, making the component easy to carry and fasten even during high-altitude installation.
