Sliding coupling for press-fit installations

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl sliding coupling with a diameter of 28 mm is an element of a precision press-fit connection system designed to compensate for thermal expansion in piping. Thanks to a design that allows for axial movement of the pipe, the installer can easily align dimensional inaccuracies and absorb stresses caused by changes in the medium's temperature.

Material and construction

The coupling body is made of stainless steel grade 1.4401 (AISI 316) - a chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy complying with the DIN EN 10088 standard. This material is characterized by increased resistance to hydrogen corrosion and the effects of chlorides, making the component suitable for both typical domestic installations and industrial or marine environments.

The walls of both ends have a thickness of 1,2 mm, and the connection length is 45,5 mm per side - this ensures stable seating of the pipe before clamping with M-profile press jaws. The surface remains in a raw state, without additional lacquer treatment.

Sealing and operating characteristics

The coupling is fitted with a black sealing ring made of CIIR rubber - an elastomer resistant to aging caused by atmospheric factors and contact with many working media. The design ensures tightness at an operating pressure of up to 16 bar at a temperature of 20°C.

An important solution is the "unverpresst undicht" function - leakage before pressing. If the installer forgets to make the connection or performs it incorrectly, the installation remains leaky at that point even before the system is commissioned - this eliminates the risk of a hidden installation error.

Scope of applications

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl sliding coupling d=28 mm is adapted for use with a wide spectrum of media:

• potable water - cold and hot,
• heating water,
• cooling water - both without and with the addition of antifreeze,
• central heating water networks at temperatures up to 120°C,
• saturated steam up to 120°C,
• process water and treated water,
• rainwater as well as grey and black water with pH ≥6,0,
• sprinkler installations and fire protection water,
• compressed air with oil cleanliness class 0-3,
• vacuum and inert gases (e.g., nitrogen),
• industrial gases - acetylene, welding shielding gases,
• chemicals and technical fluids.

The component is dedicated to construction technology, industrial installations, and shipbuilding - anywhere where reliability of connections made with a press-fit system is required.

Installation tips

The coupling is equipped with a transparent protective cap functioning as a press indicator - during clamping, the cap gradually deforms or moves, informing the installer of the correct seating of the jaw around the coupling flange. The total length of the element is 91 mm, which, with two working connections, provides sufficient axial clearance to compensate for the expansion of pipes in typical installation routes.
