Geberit Mapress press connection system

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl transition coupling belongs to one of the most popular installation systems in the sanitary and heating industry. It connects a pipe with an outer diameter of 15 mm (DN12) with an internal thread of Rp 1/2" in a single element - enabling a quick transition between a press connection and a standard cylindrical thread.

The entire Mapress coupling family is based on press connection technology. This involves clamping the socket onto the pipe and fitting using press jaws - without welding, brazing, or threading pipe connections. The result? The connection becomes leak-proof and mechanically durable, and the installer saves time and avoids working with open flames on the construction site.

The Geberit Mapress system features the "unpressed leaky" solution - meaning leakage before the connection is made. If the coupling is not correctly pressed, it will leak the medium even at low working pressure. For the installer, this is a built-in indicator of a mounting error - there is no need to wait for a pressure test or search for micro-leaks.

Additionally, each coupling is equipped with a press indicator - a signaling element (in this case, a transparent protective cap on the press sleeve) that informs about the necessity of performing the connection.

Material and structural resistance

The coupling body is made of 316 (1.4401) stainless steel - a CrNiMo alloy characterized by increased corrosion resistance compared to standard austenitic steel. The 1.4401 grade is particularly effective where the working medium is aggressive or where there is increased humidity.

Both the press connection (socket) and the internal thread are finished in mill finish - without additional anti-corrosion coating. This is a deliberate design choice: the stainless steel itself, due to its structure, does not require additional surface treatment under typical operating conditions of sanitary and heating installations.

Sealing is provided by a CIIR gasket (chlorobutadiene rubber) in black - a material resistant to aging under the influence of temperature and contact with drinking water and typical heating media.

The coupling has a straight design (arc angle 0°), a total length of 37 mm, a press connection length of 20 mm, and the working part of the internal thread is 17 mm. High tensile strength confirms the ability to carry mechanical loads under standard installation conditions.

Scope of applications and media compatibility

The Geberit Mapress transition coupling d=15mm / Rp=1/2" is a system element dedicated to a wide spectrum of installations - from domestic to industrial and marine. M-profile means compatibility with standard press jaws of this profile.

Drinking water (cold and hot), heating water with and without anti-freeze, district heating water up to 120°C, saturated steam up to 120°C, process and treated waters, grey and black wastewater with pH >6.0, and rainwater with pH >6.0 - these are the primary media for this type of fitting.

Furthermore, the coupling is suitable for installations involving:

• sprinklers (wet),

• fire protection (firefighting water),

• compressed air of oil cleanliness class 0-3,

• vacuum,

• inert gases (e.g., nitrogen),

• industrial gases - acetylene and shielding gases for welding,

• chemicals and technical fluids.

The Rp thread according to the ISO 7-1 / EN 10226-1 standard is a common internal cylindrical pipe thread used in sanitary and heating installations - it fits pipes and fittings with an external R thread according to the same standard.
