Geberit Mapress stainless steel transition coupling with female thread: d=54mm, Rp=1 1/2'' 31822

316L Stainless Steel in the Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system

The transition coupling is made of CrNiMo 1.4401 stainless steel in accordance with the DIN EN 10088 standard - a grade widely used in installations requiring corrosion and mechanical resistance. The pipe wall thickness at the press connection is 1.5 mm, which ensures structural stability at operating pressures typical for sanitary and industrial installations.

The manufacturer's ambition was to create a system component that allows for a transition between a press-fit pipe and an internal thread - without the need for additional transitions or adapters. The total length of the body is 77 mm, with the length of the threaded connection itself being 42 mm, and the press-fit segment being 35 mm. The working cross-section of both ends is 10.5 mm, which facilitates precise placement in the space between the wall and the insulation.

Both sides of the coupling - both the pressfitting sleeve and the internal thread - are made of the same grade of steel. Material uniformity eliminates the risk of galvanic contact corrosion between different alloys.

Connection parameters and regulatory compliance

The press-fit side operates with M pressing jaws - the standard profile of the Geberit Mapress Edelstahl system. The sleeve is equipped with a transparent protective cap, which protects the CIIR seal from contamination during transport and storage. The cap is removed directly before installation.

The opposite side is a cylindrical BSPT-Rp internal thread according to ISO 7-1 and EN 10226-1 standards, with a diameter of Rp 1½" (corresponding to DN40). The cylindrical thread requires sealing with a ring or Teflon tape on the external thread - it does not seal by shape like a tapered thread.

The nominal diameter of the pressfitting connection is DN50 with an external pipe diameter of 54 mm. The coupling is a system component - designed to work exclusively with pipes and fittings from the Geberit Mapress Edelstahl line.

The Rp internal thread meets European standard requirements for cylindrical connections. The body material complies with the DIN EN 10088 classification for chromium-nickel-molybdenum austenitic steels. The manufacturer dedicates the element to three main sectors: building installations, industry, and shipbuilding.

Media compatibility

The manufacturer declares compatibility with a wide spectrum of media encountered in building installations:

  • Drinking water - both cold and hot,
  • Heating water - with or without corrosion inhibitors,
  • Cooling water,
  • District heating water up to 120 °C,
  • Saturated steam up to 120 °C,
  • Industrial and process waters,
  • Treated waters,
  • Rainwater with pH > 6.0,
  • Grey and black wastewater with pH > 6.0,
  • Wet fire extinguishing water and sprinkler systems,
  • Compressed air (oil cleanliness class 0-3),
  • Inert gases (e.g., nitrogen),
  • Industrial gases - acetylene, shielding gases for welding,
  • Chemicals and technical fluids.

The scope also includes vacuum. Such versatility allows for the use of a single line of fittings in mixed projects - e.g., central heating manifolds simultaneously serving radiators and sprinkler systems.

pressindikator leak control mechanism

The coupling belongs to the unverpresst undicht (unpressed = leaking) category. This means that before the jaw connection is performed, the element remains open - a test pressure will reveal a leak. This is an intentional control mechanism: the installer immediately sees if they forgot to perform the pressing.

After the jaw connection is correctly performed, the CIIR seal (chlorobutadiene rubber) is permanently pressed against the pipe surface, creating a leak-proof dynamic seal resistant to aging. The black sealing ring is factory-mounted in the sleeve groove.

This function eliminates the risk of a hidden installation error - an under-tightened or insufficiently pressed connection cannot be overlooked during the pressure test before commissioning the installation.

The reinforced construction enables the transfer of high tensile forces - which is important when mounting pipe risers in multi-story commercial buildings or on vessel decks, where pipes are subject to stresses from temperature-induced length changes.
