Press connection system for sanitary and industrial installations

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl transition coupling is an element of an extensive stainless steel piping system designed for fast and reliable connections in water supply, heating, gas, and industrial installations.

The product is equipped with a 18 mm diameter press end and a 1/2 inch BSPT-R external thread, allowing for the connection of Mapress pipes to threaded fittings or other installation elements.

The design is based on the M profile, which requires the use of clamping jaws of the same type - standard jaws from other manufacturers will not fit. The total length of the coupling is 42 mm, with the press part length being 20 mm and the threaded part measuring 22 mm. The socket wall thickness is 1 mm, ensuring adequate stiffness while maintaining low mass.

Materials and corrosion resistance

Both connections are made of CrNiMo 1.4401 stainless steel (compliant with EN 10088), commonly referred to as 316 steel. This grade contains molybdenum, which increases resistance to pitting corrosion - crucial in installations with chlorinated water or in marine environments. The surfaces of both ends remain in a raw state (without additional protective coating), which is typical for Mapress systems and does not negatively affect the durability of the connection.

Sealing is provided by a black CIIR gasket (chlorobutadiene rubber), resistant to hot water, saturated steam, and many industrial media. All elements are factory-capped - the socket has a transparent protective cap protecting the interior from contamination during transport and storage.

Scope of application and media compatibility

The coupling is suitable for a wide spectrum of applications:

• Potable water - cold and hot domestic water installations,
• Heating and cooling agents - heating water up to 120°C, saturated steam up to 120°C, glycols,
• Industrial water - process water, treated water, rainwater (at pH >6.0),
• Wastewater - grey and black water at pH >6.0,
• Compressed air - oil cleanliness class 0-3,
• Technical gases - nitrogen as an inert gas, acetylene, and shielding gases for welding,
• Chemicals and technical liquids - wet sprinklers and selected chemical substances,
• Vacuum.

The system finds application in residential and public utility buildings, as well as in industrial facilities and marine installations.

Installation and press connection characteristics

The connection is realized using the press technique - without welding or soldering. A key feature is the press indicator: a visible element that informs the installer of a correctly executed connection. The second important feature is the "unverpresst undicht" function - before pressing, the connection remains leaky (does not hold pressure), which eliminates the risk of accidental under-tightening or under-pressing.

The installation process is as follows: remove the transparent protective cap from the socket, insert the pipe into the press end until it stops, perform the pressing with M profile jaws, and then check the press indicator as confirmation of correctness. This method reduces installation time by up to several dozen percent compared to traditional threading or welding techniques - especially in hard-to-reach places or with a large number of connections.

The product is delivered factory-capped and ready for installation without additional surface preparation or thread sealing with an anaerobic agent - the CIIR gasket ensures the tightness of the threaded connection even with standard tightening.
