316 stainless steel in the press connection system

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl transition coupling is an element of an installation system based on press technology - one of the fastest and most reliable ways to connect pipes in sanitary and heating installations. The body is made of 316 (1.4401 / CrNiMo) grade stainless steel, which means increased corrosion resistance compared to standard austenitic steel. This material is particularly effective where the working medium or environmental conditions place high demands - in industrial, marine, and public utility installations.

The connection on the pipe side is a press fitting with an outer diameter of 22 mm (DN 20) with an M-profile - compatible with the Geberit Mapress system press jaws. The length of this connection is 21 mm, and the wall thickness is 1.2 mm. The second end is a tapered BSPT-R external thread according to ISO 7-1 and EN 10226-1 standards, inch-sized (R=1''), with a length of 25 mm. The total length of the coupling is 46 mm.

Sealing is provided by a black ring made of CIIR material - chloroprene rubber with good chemical and temperature resistance. The coupling comes factory-equipped with seals.

Safety and quality control

The Mapress system is characterized by the "unverpresst undicht" feature - meaning it is leaky before the press connection is made. If the installer forgets or incorrectly performs the press connection, the element will leak during the pressure test - which eliminates the risk of a hidden leaky connection after closing grooves and backfilling the installation.

An additional convenience during installation is the press indicator and a transparent protective cap on the press coupling, which protects the inside of the socket from contamination on the construction site.

The design is adapted to withstand high axial forces - this is confirmed by the high tensile strength parameter.

Applications and compatibility

The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl transition coupling is used in three main areas:

• Building services - central heating, hot and cold domestic water installations in residential and commercial buildings,
• Industry - technological installations requiring corrosion resistance and tightness at higher pressure parameters,
• Shipbuilding - marine applications, where 316 stainless steel performs well in difficult humidity and saline air conditions.

The tapered inch thread allows connection to fittings with internal threads - ball valves, filters, reducers, or circulation pumps. This makes the element a natural link between the press piping system and traditional threaded connections.

The surfaces of both connections remain in a raw state (without additional processing), which is standard for this type of installation components - it does not require additional anti-corrosion protection before installation.
