Professional pipe-to-thread connection in sanitary and industrial installations
The Geberit Mapress Edelstahl transition fitting with an external thread is a component of the Mapress press-fit system, enabling a secure connection between a steel pipe and a threaded fitting. This model, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thread of R 1 1/4 inch (DN 40/32), is suitable for both domestic and industrial applications, as well as marine installations – where high tightness and resistance to operating pressure are required.
Design and Materials
The fitting body is made of stainless steel CrNiMo 1.4401 (compliant with EN 10088), commonly known as 316 stainless steel. This is a chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy with enhanced corrosion resistance, especially in humid environments and when in contact with aggressive media. The wall thickness at the press-fit connection is 1.5 mm, ensuring adequate mechanical rigidity of the entire connection.
The press-fit end (socket) has a M clamping profile, a transparent protective cap, and a clear clamping indicator – characteristic of the entire Mapress family. The external thread is a tapered gas thread BSPT-R according to ISO 7-1 and EN 10226-1. The length of the threaded part is 27 mm, allowing for a secure screwing into the opposite socket or fitting.
The seal is made of CIIR (chlorobutadiene rubber) – a material resistant to aging and the action of many chemicals. The surfaces of both connections remain in a raw state (without additional coating), which is a standard solution for stainless steel in this segment.
Range of Applications
The Mapress Edelstahl series covers a wide range of working media:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Water | Cold and hot potable water, cooling and heating water (including with glycol), heating water up to 120 °C |
| Steam | Saturated steam up to 120 °C |
| Wastewater | Rainwater (pH > 6.0), grey and black wastewater (pH > 6.0) |
| Industrial | Production and process water, treated water, chemicals and technical fluids |
| Pneumatics | Compressed air (oil purity class 0-3), vacuum |
| Gases | Inert gases (e.g. nitrogen), industrial gases (e.g. acetylene, shielding gases for welding) |
| Special | Sprinkler systems (wet), marine installations |
This means that a single fitting can perform various functions depending on the project – from a typical central heating installation to complex industrial systems.
Functional features important during installation
The basic principle of the Mapress system: the connection remains tight only after pressing. Until the pressing process is completed, the element is not tight – this is an intentional solution that eliminates the risk of accidentally starting the installation before the work is completed. The clamping indicator visible on the socket informs the installer about the correct positioning of the pipe before inserting it into the end.
The transparent protective cap protects the inside of the socket from contamination during transport and storage – simply remove it immediately before installation.
A press with appropriate M-profile jaws, as well as scissors or a pipe cutter for Geberit Mapress steel pipes, are required for pressing. The tightening torque for the external thread should be selected according to the manufacturer's instructions for the opposite fitting – the fitting itself does not require any special tools other than a standard flat or adjustable wrench.
The overall dimensions of this model are 57 mm in length and 27 mm in height, measured from the end of the socket to the end of the thread. The weight is approximately 0.21 kg, making the element lightweight even with larger diameters.
