Corrosion protection in domestic hot water heaters
The magnesium anode serves as a key protective element in modern domestic hot water heaters, acting as an active barrier against corrosive processes. It works in conjunction with the enamel layer, creating a comprehensive protection system for the internal tank surface against the harmful effects of water.
Mechanism of operation and anode consumption
The operation of the magnesium anode is based on the principle of galvanic protection, where magnesium acts as a metal more electropositive than the steel used in tank production. In the aqueous environment, natural galvanic corrosion cells form due to the presence of various installation materials - steel, copper or brass - each with a different electrochemical potential.
The anode gradually wears out while simultaneously protecting the more expensive structural components of the heater. The rate of this process is directly dependent on the hardness and chemical composition of the domestic hot water, as well as the intensity of device operation. In practice, this means the need for regular monitoring of the anode condition.
Service and replacement - maintaining warranty
The anode condition should be checked at least once a year, with replacement becoming necessary in two cases: when wear exceeds 2/3 of the original volume or after a maximum of two years from installation, regardless of the current visual condition.
Regular anode replacement not only ensures continuous corrosion protection but also constitutes a condition for maintaining the manufacturer's warranty. Neglecting this procedure may result in loss of warranty rights and accelerated aging of the entire heating appliance.
Application and compatibility
The 1" x 1100 x 25 mm model is dedicated to the VF300, VF400, VF500 and KOMPAKT300 heater series, providing optimal contact surface with the heating medium. The dimensions have been precisely matched to the hydraulic characteristics of these models, ensuring uniform distribution of protective currents across the entire internal tank surface.
The product is factory-installed as standard equipment and constitutes a standard feature of all enameled heaters in this power class.
