Shell and tube heat exchanger for swimming pools B250 0170-0005
Application and Characteristics of the B250
This device is a dedicated solution for installations where efficient heat exchange is crucial while simultaneously maintaining a high medium flow rate. The B250 shell-and-tube heat exchanger is primarily effective in swimming pool systems, where rapid heating of large water masses is necessary, but also in solar installations or for pre-heating oil. Its design allows for operation in conditions where traditional heat exchangers might struggle to maintain adequate flow velocity without generating excessive pressure drops. Consequently, there is no need to use additional bypass valves, which simplifies the entire hydraulic installation.
Construction and Environmental Resistance
The heart of the device is a bundle of 59 corrugated tubes made of AISI 316L stainless steel. This is not just a matter of durability – the corrugated surface of the tubes generates turbulent flow, which naturally intensifies the heat exchange process. Importantly, such flow also acts as a self-cleaning mechanism, making it difficult for scale and other impurities to deposit on the tube walls. This material has been specially heat-treated to ensure high chemical resistance. This is required by the specific composition of pool water, which is often saturated with chlorine or fluorine, substances that lead to rapid corrosion and failure in standard materials. The entire unit is a leak-proof, welded construction with compact dimensions (height 509 mm) that does not require insulation cladding, and its maximum operating temperature reaches 203 °C at an operating pressure of up to 16 bar.
Installation and Operating Parameters
For the installer, simplicity of connection is essential – the device features internal threaded connections with diameters adapted to standard pool installations. The heating side connections (K1 and K4) have a diameter of DN 33.7 mm (approx. 1 inch), while the pool side connections (K2 and K3) are wider – DN 48.3 mm (approx. 1 1/2 inches). This solution optimizes the flow of pool water through the shell side inter-tube space with a volume of 2 liters, while the volume on the tube side is 1.5 liters. The total heat exchange surface is 0.6 m², and the mass of the device including connections is only 5.8 kg, which facilitates handling and installation even in hard-to-reach technical areas.
In practical operation, the device is characterized by a wide operating temperature range from -10 °C to 203 °C and resistance to an operating pressure of up to 16 bar. Thanks to a compact outer diameter of 102 mm and a lightweight design weighing under 6 kg, installation presents no difficulties even in tight boiler rooms or technical cabinets. The internal threaded connections eliminate the need for additional reducers or flanges during standard piping installation.
