Flexible sensor cable for industrial applications
UNITRONIC SENSOR LifYY series cables serve as a transmission medium in machine interfaces and industrial automation installations. The design based on four multi-wire copper cores with a cross-section of 0,34 mm² ensures stable signal and data transfer in the low-frequency band - typically during communication with sensors and actuators.
The cable construction includes PVC core insulation with color identification in accordance with the DIN EN 50044 standard and an external PVC protective jacket in black RAL 9005. An outer diameter of 4,4-4,8 mm allows for cable routing even in tight cable paths. The bending radius is 5x the diameter for fixed installations and 10x for occasional movement - which means approximately 22 mm and 44 mm respectively for this model.
Electrical and environmental parameters
The cable operates at a rated voltage of 250 V AC (peak operating voltage reaches 900 V), which precludes its use in high-current circuits. The conductor resistance at 20°C is a maximum of 57 Ω/km, and the operating capacitance at 800 Hz does not exceed 60 nF/km. The characteristic impedance is 100-120 Ω, which is important when designing signal paths.
The operating temperature range varies depending on the nature of the installation: from −5°C to +80°C for fixed installation and from −5°C to +70°C for occasional movement. The PVC jacket is resistant to acids, alkalis, and UV radiation - the latter feature, confirmed by tests according to EN ISO 4892-2, enables outdoor operation. The cable exhibits self-extinguishing properties in accordance with IEC 60332-1-2.
Chemical resistance and mounting practice
The jacket material provides limited resistance to oils - the manufacturer specifies this parameter as conditional. The cable is free from substances affecting coatings (PWIS-free wg VDMA 24364-B2-L), which is significant in production environments controlled for the cleanliness of painted surfaces.
The flexible conductor design (class 5wg VDE or class 6wg ETIM) facilitates the wiring of sensor connections. Color-coded cores according to the DIN standard simplify identification during installation - brown, white, blue, and black form the standard configuration for this type of sensor cable.
The cable is intended for fixed and moderately flexible connections - however, it is not suitable for use in cable chains or under torsional loads. It performs well in both dry and damp indoor and outdoor environments, provided the ambient temperature remains within the permissible operating range.
